I just did a clean Vista Business install, from zero, using my own install disks with the license found on the back of the laptop. I have a Vaio Z570 by the way.
I installed ALL the drivers but only a few software pieces, using the Vaio recovery disks. I did install the Vaio Event Service, which enables the Volume Up/Down/Mute, but the brightness doesn't change with F5/F6 anymore. Also, the Stamina/Speed switch doesn't do anything ... what do I need to install to make this stuff work, with minimal additional services/software added to my vista?

Also, are you guys able to use Firefox or even Google Chrome with the fingerprint sensor? Cause mine only works with IE. I have version 5.6 and no newer version to install from Sony, altough there is a 5.8 version from other people (like Lenovo ..) for the same thing, but not sure if I should install their software on my Vaio.

    Thank you :)

I don't know if this is the same for the Z, but I ran into the same problem for the SR.

You need to install the Sony Shared Libraries package and the Firmware Parser Drivers (don't remember the exact name). The parser drivers are especially important because they are the ones that control brightness keys, for my SR anyways.
