Has anyone noticed that when playing certain DVD or certain movie files, the volume is too low even with the slider moves all the way up? I notice this with my new SZ as well as my other 7 year old Sony laptop.

I know its simple but it could be that the system volume is low, the program volume is low or speak volume is low. You probably have checked all these but I'd recheck, especially the system volume in control panel.

It also depends whether you're watching a film in Digital 5.1 or just stereo. The former will have a much greater dynamic range - so the difference between quiet and loud sounds will be much bigger. This means the speech and other quiet bits can seem too quiet. Many DVD players have an option to compress the dynamic range down so that it's easier to listen at low volumes or on small speakers.
