I bought the W8 Pro no line.

    Problems:
    1. DVD RW driver not present.
    2. SD card not present.
    3. "Fn" Key disabled.
    4. AV MODE disabled.
    5. "Click "OK" to hibernate mode and remove....too.
6.Touch pad scroll up and down not working.
    7.Other Devices/Base System Device,Unknown Device ..not present.
    Actions:
    1. Went to Start Up /Task Manager and Disabled ISBMgr.exe to clear the CAUTION box (faulty&stupid) of the authenticity battery of SONY which it is.
    2. I reinstalled ALL drivers at SONY SUPPORT nothing happened.
......and many other things at no result.

As I saw that there are too many problems I decided to go back to Vista since I have System Restore discs. Tried to boot the machine with F11 at no result. I set up External Drive as Primary to boot form external CD drive (just in case as CD-ROM is not present) still at no result. The only drive that machine would recognize is USB flash drive.

HELP would be appreciated going back to my lesser disastrous Vista. BTW the laptop is/was in a pretty good shape and being taken good care. Like brand new.

If Sony refuse to support my 2010 VPC-Z then I can't see how you managed to obtain Windows 8 drivers for your VGN-FW140!

Well. They actually didn't refuse but they said at the end of the season you will be charged $129 without mentioning the outcome. The same did Microsoft Support but they asked for $99.

Did you follow the guide for clean installing Windows 7 on your model? Look in the sticky thread at the top of this forum. The Windows 7 drivers work fine on Windows 8 for me, except the SD card reader which I can live without. Everything else works, and my VPCZ1 is a lot more cranky to set up, what with hybrid graphics and all.

It was much simplier then I thought. After evrything beenig pulled out of the machine Alt+F10 down fired it up and VOILA'. Brand new Vaio. The system was untoched. Did not need the System Recovery Discs.

    Thanks anyway.

I'm running Windows 8 Pro 64 bit on my VPCZ1 - no problems except for the SD card reader which I don't care about. So it can be done, and is not very difficult. If you like, you can look at my guide for installing Windows 8 RP - the procedure is more or less unchanged in Windows 8 RTM. Since you've already paid for the upgrade, why waste it?

BTW, it is always better to do a clean install than an upgrade. Start with a clean slate. :D
