Hope someone can help me troubleshoot. I am having problems with my WD Passport USB 320 GB drive losing power sometimes when various schedlued backup programs are supposed to run or simply when accessing the drive to open files. Have it plugged in to the USB port closest to where I am sitting, closest to front of my FW. When power is lost, I can restart what I am doing and it comes alive again with no problems but it is sort of irritating. I am running Vista home premium 32 bit.

Anyone got any clues as to what I need to look for to solve this problem. The WD drive is new, just a few months old. The drive has no included AC adapter or anything like that. Thanks again for your help.

Doesn't the cord have a Y-split so that you can plug it into 2 USB ports for more power?

What do you mean by it loses power?

I have cable that did not come with the drive that has a Y split and I will try this one, hate to have to use two ports though.

When I say loses power I mean it is not ready to write for some reason. Then, I hear the reconnecting to port Windows sound and if I try the task again manually, all works fine.

    use the other usb port.

the usb ports on the FWs are underpowered.

Also take out the battery for 10 seconds so all devices reset
