Okay this is a little pathetic but I am willing to drop 2K for this machine if and only if it can play WOW (World of Warcraft) - Burning Crusade. I need a new machine and wanted the Asus G1 that my Best Buy sort of carried (they were out as soon as they got it). So - I need a laptop - any help here? You can email me :)

It will handle it just fine - heck, my old Vaio S360 with a Radeon Mobility 9700 could handle WoW ok. But the GeForce 7400 does a great job of dealing with it.

Have you had a chance to look at the SZ430 in person? I'd highly recommend doing so if you can, especially to look at the screen (and possibly compare it with the premium models, like the SZ450 and SZ460). People seem to have different threshholds, but personally I found the LED-backlit SZ460 screen to be a lot nicer and brighter, and worth the extra premium in cost, if you have already settled on the SZ series.

Having said that, the G1 would do a great job of handling WoW too; the main difference would be portability and weight. If you want the G1, you should look at buying the G1 from a place like proportable.com or milestonepc.com though - Best Buy seems to have raised the price on their G1 to $1999 (not counting sales tax), and they don't even seem to have them in stock in many places.

You can play with full settings, maximum resolution.
Dont worry the config is just fine.
It suggest you try the newer games too, they will rock on these configurations

Wow, am I impressed with this forum! People actually respond.

Zadillo - no I have not had a chance to look at any models above the 430. I am in a vague crisis mode since my desktop is on its way back to HP for repairs (after 3 months) and my old laptop (Vpr Matrix 200A5) doesn't seem to be running very well. My local Best Buy/Circuit City have the 430 in stock available for pickup. I guess I could order and overnight something else :)

    You don't have to worry...

but you must have turn off anti alias, v sync, and other stuff in nvidia control panel.. then in the game yes you set high setting without lag..

    :)

I have WoW installed on my SZ450 and with all the details at max I always have FPS above 28.
Keep in mind that current Sony/nVidia drivers for Vista are piece of junk and FPS can only get higher in the future. :)

BTW, when I install gfx driver other than Sony's original, my brightness control no longer function. Any workaround ?

haha, thats why i install window xp pro.

Nvidia control panel is not fully work properly yet in vista.

So basically you cannot set contrast, gamma, even sharpness. But you can set brightness with the FN key. You can try 3rd party software.. but I couldnt find any.
