I previously had a vaio z129 but I upgraded to z216 (what a mistake). I like the weight of the z2 but I really need something that is powerful and capable of playing movies on the move. The power media dock does not work for me. No matter how much they are trying to phase out the use of disc drives, I feel I need it still: especially with movies on the go.

That z129 was a beauty - I regret getting rid of it. Powerful and light all in one complete package. So if anyone has a z1 with the following specs and want to get rid of it or possibly do a trade for z216(if in good nick) I would love to hear form them. There is no way I am going to purchase the vaio duo - too artsy for me - if this is the Z replacement then we are in alot of trouble.

    Desired specs:
    - i7 preferable
    -8gb ram
    - cd/dvd if possible blu ray
    - minimum 256gb would love 512-1tb
    - silver version preferable (or bordeaux if anyone has one)
    -WWAN sim card slot
    - full hd 1920x1080 preferable

Just a question, did the silver version ever come with a black top? or has it always been silver?
i don't mind second hand units, if anyone can tell me some good sites where I can get one that would be much appreciated.

    cheers.

Intel HD 4000 is not enough for you to play movies?

Hey thanks for the reply. While they are great specs I really need 256gb minimum and WWAN. What is your asking price anyway? Might be interested if cheap enough.

Actually it is Intel HD Graphics 3000 not 4000 in my z2. If you read my first post above, it will answer your question - my complaint does not concern the graphics processor at all.

How do you check for WWAN?

I have a pretty similar config
    i7-620m
    256gb SSD
6 or 8gb RAM (can upgrade)
Actually have a 640gb drive in place of the blu-ray but I still have the drive and can install it.
    1080p screen

I would LOVE to trade for a z2!! But only if it has a 1080p screen as well. If not, maybe we can keep our screens as they are compatible. :)

Please let me know! Very interested in doing this!

    It is my mistake.
However, I read your post and you said it is not powerful to play movies on the go.

If it has WWAN, there should be a sim card slot in the battery compartment. My z2 is 1080p. What colour is your z1?
What do you mean by "the screens being compatible"? The design of the z1 and z2 are quite different. I don't think you can install the z1 screen on a z2 unit and vice versa.

My post above reads that I want something that is powerful and capable of playing movies on the go. Lugging around the power media dock does not work for me.

How is the tablet S going for you by the way? Have you had it for long?

I understand you want to play movies from discs. I also prefer a built in optical drive, but I am not using it too much.
I have my S Tablet from the day it released (about a year ago). It is really useful for me and I like it.

I meant tablet s in my previous post, fixed.
I also have S13 CTO which I bought few months ago.
Actually, I have both Z1 and Z2 currently, but I am going to sell them.
I am going to order Duo 11 i7 once I receive gift cards from all trade ins.

    You may have already found what you are looking for, but if not i have nearly the exact config you seek, with the following exceptions;

    1) 900p screen (read up on it; it has many strengths vs. the 1080p screen (which I also own in a Z2): about 35% brighter, double the contrast ratio, much easier to read text without scaling up, more than enough real estate to view two pages side by side, very close color gamt: 100% sRGB, 70% Adobe RGB (if you are not doing professional editing - does anyone on a 13" laptop?) the color gamut should be more than sufficient. Anyway, I don't mean to be selling this hard; whatever machine you buy, I would advise that you not make the screen a deal breaker.

    2) Mind is black, not sliver. The way to get a black lid on a sliver machine is to get a black skin for the lid (SGP recommended), which you should get for protection, regardless of the color of your lid.

In truth, I'm not actively seeking to sell this awesome machine, but if the price is right, virtually everything I own is "for sale." PM me if you're interested and let me know your price offer.

Thanks for the advice. I absolutely love the sharpness of the image on the 1080p and since I intend to use it for films as well, full HD would be great. Yours doesn't have blu-ray does it?

    I have PM'd you.

I have a VPC-Z1 with docking station, i5-540m, blu-ray burner UJ242, 512GB SSD, WWAN, standard battery, w7 ultimate x64 and 1600x900 screen to offer, if the price is right. This is a hard notebook to part with. The 1600x900 is known to have better color saturation and perhaps contrast than the 1080p screen.
