HI, I have a TXN29N and am in south africa, my ? is this, the vaio has wwan functionality linked to Sprint Mobile, obviosly I cannot use the sprint mobile service in south africa, can I use the wwan functionality here at all (on our mobile networks)? if so, how? on top of that the TXN29N has no simcard slot so how is wwan supposed to work (how do you connect to the mobile network without a sim)?

If you need to use an external modem (huwaei or such like) with a simcard in (like my previous laptop) then I don't understand why sony included wwan?

Any info would be appreciated, thanks

Sprint and Verizon are on the CDMA network and do not use sim cards. Sim cards are used for GSM networks. It does not even appear that you can unlock the sprint card to go on the Verizon network. I think that you might have been able to get Verizon in South Africa.

What you might try and do but i don't know if this is possible is to switch the modem for a Verizon one. I have no idea if this would all work out for you though or if even you can get those parts.

This is what your modem card looks like, it can be removed from the modem board that Sony uses-

It is not good the way Sony locked it up like this.

You might just now want to go for a HSDPA PCMICA card or get a USB modem dongle.

That's the built in SPRINT WWAN card that many of the TXN's came with.

That is just most likely one of the many standard drivers that XP/Vista come with. Or maybe you downloaded something and that driver got added. The TXN WWAN modem cannot utilise HSDPA. Your drivers i think should be by Novatel.

Would it be possible to replace it with a modem that accepts a sim card (gsm)?
