Wait or buying nowthe SZ laptop...

Whatsup everyone, i am absolutly new for this web, so i need to get some cool advise from you guys, and i will apprecaite that!! I am really interested on buying the Sony SZ series laptop. I have heard about there will come out some new SZ series laptops with Santa Rosa chips and graphic card upgraded in the end of July.So I just want to make sure whether this will happen or not and if so, will price go up much higher than those right now? thanks!!

 

i would wait for the santa rosa refresh. It will co me this month.

I would also take a look at the xps m1330 as it is a great computer in direct competition with the sz.

 

Yeah, I'm pretty much in the same situation...

But I think we should wait for it by these few couple of weeks. Even if we have to decide for another laptop.

Probably not MUCH (I hope). I remember when the SZ4 series came out, the prices didn't change drastically...

I'm also in the same boat as you guys, waiting for Sony to get the new specs inside the SZ series. They have discounted the two highest CPU's in the CTO series by $100US, not going to jump the gun and spend big when they are going to be bringing out better gear...hopefully soon. Apple have made the move to the Santa Rosa specs, wheres Sony at???

I actually couldn't wait and ordered the Dell M1330 loaded for $2300. However, it wasn't expected to ship until July 31. Thus, I recently canceled the order when it seemed that it wouldn't be earlier and decided to wait until the SR enabled SZ series comes out.

This way I won't regret my choice and at the worst case I would wait an additional 3 weeks.

Plus opening a Vaio in a coffeeshop feels so much better than opening a Dell. Price seems like it should be similar as well.

I was really excited about the M1330 few weeks ago. But then, I decided to wait a bit longer and see what Sony is preparing...

Just hope I won't be disappointed.

You're refferring to Macbook Pro, right? I think Macbooks (not "Pros") have not made the move yet.

Sony are trying to flog off old parts inside this model, whilst most fellas I know are walking away to buy a lightweight dell with current specs... Dell is a good setup, so if if Sony doesn't get it together by a few weeks time, dell have got my money...

 

Oh really? Hmm... I wonder when "end of July" really will be? I was thinking about the FZ because it has the SR and a very nice video card but the SZ is more my size (I have an S right now actually it's nearly 3 years old) so if it got a nice processor and graphics card upgrade I'd be very interested... I wonder if the new card would compete with the FZ's GeForce 8400M GT though? Right now the SZ has a 7400 I believe, so would it likely stay with the 7 series? Maybe 7800 or 7950?

The 7800/7900 create too much heat for a notebook of the SZ's size. It will most likely be upgraded to an Nvidia 8400GS in Speed mode, which is a step down from the 8400GT the FZ has, and Intel GMA X3100 in Stamina mode.

 

so from what I have read around, people are saying it will be this month Sony will make a move. I have to make a decision by the end of the month due to semester two at uni starting. I don't think US100 discount is sufficient to coax people into buying old tech...

Dell is what ill go for, cant see Sony pulling through, it has been said there is other SZ4xx models to be released soon, of which don't seem to be SR...

 

If you can wait you should wait...don't want to regret the decision.

I, like you, couldn't wait, and placed an order for M1330. Expected ship date was July 31. Now it is around Aug 7. If this is still the case, you won't benefit from ordering the M1330 now since you son't get it until after the SZ is released.

However, given Sony's PS3 debacle, you might have to wait a while for the SZ as well.

I am willing to wait just because chicks dig Vaios more than they do Dells...

 

Actually, Sony has released some models in Europe (the SZ5 series) with minor changes, like HDD size. These models didn't even come to the US.

At sonystyle.com, we can see that some models have already been "cut off", like the SZ450 and 460. It seems we're getting closer to "the day".

Looks like the boat is getting even more crowdy. Me and my wife are on it as well. We were first exited about the xps 1330 too, untill we found out that there was no docking station for it. Makes it a bit hard sharing same desk and peripherals. Also, SZ's have stamina mode and gaming mode, giving you the best of both worlds.

Current SZ is getting bit outdated in the design department though. I have high hopes for the new SZ. If it's design is anything like the new CR we are in for a hell of a treat. Don't make me regret the wait sony!

 

well -- since everyone is waiting for the SZ -- i guess my hopes of getting it at the end of july are pretty much dashed

hopefully it will be in good supply by the end of august (crosses fingers)
