Went to Wal-Mart today to get myself an iTouch. Next to the iTouches is the laptop display. 2 boxes in that cage display caught my eye. 2 Big black boxes. Upon review of the box, it was a 13 inch sony vaio laptop. I asked the employee there for a pen, and wrote this down "Sony Vaio CR VGN-CR309/RC" Listed price in Walmart: $998.99. To my surprise, Google has never seen this laptop, the only laptop that comes up when I search for it is a 14 inch blue laptop.
The laptop I saw in Walmart was Crimson Red, and the box it came in was big and black. Wondering why it was so big, I looked at the box and apparently it comes with a Case for the laptop as well.
My question is: Does anyone know about this laptop? is it a Retail store only release? I can't even find it on sony.com. Considering the 2gb 1.6ghz dual core specs, to come with a carrying case and all for just under a grand seemed really nice. Only con would be the 13 inch screen, but I've never used one, so who am I to talk?
If anyone could shed some light I'd really appreciate it. I'm trying to see if this was some kind of price error so I can go back and snatch those 2 up for that price. The one amazon has is blue, no case, and over $1,000. Same specs.
Thanks,
Rob

Are you sure it's a 13 inch screen? Sony's CR series use 14", not 13" screens.

I'am absolutely positive. That's what struck me as odd. Same model # I listed above. "Beautiful 13.3 inch screen" is what the box said. :O

I don't know what Sony boxes look, like but I have a feeling it might have been repacked by Walmart (since it comes with a carrying case too) and they made a mistake in listing the screen size or model number (probably the former). The only 13" model Sony makes is the SZ.
I think it's more of a clearance item than a pricing error, which would explain why it's not on the Sony website... anymore. That might be why they're throwing in the bag for free too. If the Walmart model and the Amazon model you mentioned are the same, then your Walmart model has a Pentium dual-core processor, rather than a Core Duo/Core 2 Duo. Still, for under a grand and a free carrying case, it's not a bad deal.
I've never owned a Sony, so somebody else should comment on its build quality and reliability... but I hoped this helped. -
I'm not even an intel guy. I would've picked them both up and sold 1 for profit and gave the other as a gift. I'm a custom built/dell guy + AMD. I roll with dell solely because they have never failed in giving me whatever I wanted. They always fulfill ANY request thats not too outrageous. Some of their laptops were salty, but they never acted "elitest" towards me and tried to charge me to fix one of their "UBER" products. <That kind of crap is what I dealt with when buying from Asus and FN.

theres a promo for sony web orders... I think the laptop in question is the CR series:

and it seems like its out of stock anyways...

I saw this on eBay the other day, this particular CR model does in fact have a 13.3 screen, unless the box was misprinted.
