What country are you currently living in? Canada? USA?

As a Canadian, I am kinda eyeing on Portable One recently. I've found some model(s) that apparently have a better price than Sonystyle USA.

Try Portable One. Customers said they have some of the best services. They also offer free bloatware removal, free neoprene case and free shipping.

There is one in this forum that just ordered a SZ791 from P1 and received it yesterday.

P1 doesn't charge tax and offers free shipping - which can be a big savings

just ordered a 780 and they were very responsive with questions - plus you get their free "remove bloatware" service and free backup DVD's

Try Newegg.com, Sony vendors always have better prices.

I'm also considering buying the SZ780 from P1 after reading some good stuff about them here. Also, no tax+free shipping is very attractive.

However, what I plan to do is either get the base system and blow it out with my own XP install - or use their XP install option.

Anyone with experience on this? Recommendations?

I like to do the xp install myself so that if anything goes wrong, I know all of the quirks reformatting will bring

VGNSZ780N5 premium SZ, for example, costs $1940 after replacing the hybrid HDD with a 200GB 7200rpm HDD. I consider a snappy processor (T9300) and a snappy hard drive for under 2000 bucks a very good deal, let alone a free case, shipping, and bloatware removal.

You are absolutely right! I ordered my SZ780NW with built in Sprint card from Portable One. No tax, free shipping and removal of bloatware is the best deal in town. I'm going with Vista Business.

portable one is still about 350bux higher than cheapest pricegrabber seller... bloatware removal is nice, but dunno if it's that nice. You can buy a full xp license and some software for that extra 350 bux, then clean install xp yourself

also, sony always has the deal where you can buy 2 accessories and get a 3year onsite warranty for free

thats about 250 off their price and you get a really good warranty (not the crappy warranty that it normally comes with) for 3 years

also if you trade in a comp you get $100 on top of the trade in credit (which isn't too badly priced), my 1.7ghz p-m gets me $326+100 on sony's site

all i'm waiting for is the sz to get an hdmi port in it and i'll be buying another one

    really?

you might want to check before you make supposed factual claims like this

Pricegrabber has two SZ 780 - model N6 and N7 listed

The best N6 price is $1907.52 - PortableOne is $1999

The best N7 model price is $2097.95 - PortOne is $2199

Less than $100 difference - plus you get personal hands on service from an authorized Sony dealer AND service center

you also get free bloatware removal, free shipping, no sales tax plus they will eliminate the hidden partition AND they provide recovery DVD's

you also get the ability to customize and they offer one year free Interpise theft protection

all from a reputable seller who participates here in the forums

PortableOne is also lower than Sony by a fair amounton some items - a few examples:

    770NC - P1 $2199 --- Sony $2249
    780N5 - P1 $1799 --- Sony $1941

I agree with you. If people are looking for the absolutely "lowest" price on the Net, you will find it. Those folks you don't want. I have found my unit which is on order for the regular price of $1749 less any applicable discounts for at least $100 more, but even if I found it for $100 less, I would still purchase my unit from Portable One. This business is about "customer service". If I have any issues with my SZ780NW, I guarantee you P1 will take care of me. I don't have time to be messing around with removing junk software, removing OS and installing another OS, etc. It's all done for me with service second to none. This is my opinion, choose your reseller and go with them. My thoughts for V-Day.
