What is the Sony purchase policy on accidental/basic warranties? I have heard and read all kinds of things. I thought that Accidental warranties had to be purchased at time of purchase, but was told by a sony representative, through a online chat, that I have 11 months to purchase both types. Online it says Accidental has to be purchased immediately and that with the Basic warranty I have six months. So I have no clue! I would also like to know if it upgradeable? Can I buy a basic warranty and eventually upgrade to a accidental? I really don't want to buy a accidental warranty now if I don't have to. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Not sure about the extended non-accidental warranty. But for the extended accidental warranty, you're allowed up to 30 days of your notebook purchase to get that warranty & register it. Good luck.

A SONYSTYLE clerk told that ADH needs to be purchased 14 days after @ ??

About 2 years ago, it was up to 11 months after Vaio notebook purchase if you want to buy an extended accidental warranty. -
I have had my SR for almost a year now and they sent me something in the mail saying HURRY GET AN EXTENDED WARRANTY and offered a bunch of accidental plans.. Not sure if that helps. I guess they will take your money any time you want haha.

Just talked to a live body at Sony and they confirmed that it is 30 days for the accidental and 6 months for the basic.

Yes, but that's not what this says: http://www.registrationhost.com/pdf/06-SONY-AE_CE-101(BB)-110106.pdf
And nowhere are there any restrictions other than those above listed on the Provantage site which sells the same warranties, apparently, and for much, much less than Sony itself does: http://www.provantage.com/warranty-service~22093371.htm
Most importantly, note that the SKU numbers for the Provantage service plans are identical to those in the Sony Extended Service Plans brochure (cf. p. 2 of the pdf): http://b2b.sony.com/documents/ExtendedServicePlan.pdf

They are the same warranty (whether you're buying from Sony or Provantage). These extended warranties are outsourced by Sony & handled by a company called Service Net Solutions LLC.

I can verify that these warranties are indeed the same thing. I bought mine through provantage and my friend bought his through Sony. We both got the same thing. In fact, when I registered my laptop, one of the questions was asking where you bought the warranty from. One of the answers was Sony lol. Save some money and buy it through provantage!
