Does anyone know the process of getting the battery replaced under warranty? The battery on my SZ260 only lasts about an hour now. It used to be about 2-3 hours, but lately it's a lot shorter. I purchased my laptop last May, so I'm almost at my 1 year mark. Can I try taking the battery into a Sony store? I've dealt with Sony before and I don't want to have to "troubleshoot" the weak battery by re-installing everything first. Just wondering what other people's experiences have been.
Also, I see you can purchase extended Sony warranty on newegg.com. It looks like I can still purchase it, as I have a little more than 30 days left before my 1 year is up. If I buy the 2 year extended warranty now, does that mean I get 2 years from today? Or, does it start from the laptop purchase date, giving me only 1 additional year at this point?
Thanks.

Hi. Yes your battery should be replaced under warranty. Its more like, one or more battery cells has failed. Once it fails, all the cells rapidly fail too, that is why you're facing so short battery life very soon.
2 year extended warranty should apply to 2 years from the date of warranty purchase..

I couldnt get my battery replaced under warranty after the first year as they quoted this:
As per our terms and conditions:
6) Batteries are a consumable item and as such are not covered under this warranty. Any defective battery will only be repaired/replaced within 6 months of purchase.
If i was you id push their customer services department hard as your within your first year, kick up a fuss if they moan. -
Just to give you an update, I was being lazy about calling Sony about my battery failing before my 1 year original warranty expired because I had purchased the Sony Extended Service Plan. The battery is now pretty much completely useless, and I my SZ260 is a little over 1 year old.
I called the Sony support phone number on the sony website. They did some "troubleshooting" then gave me a reference number and then gave me a different phone number for the extended warranty company. I called the number and after being on hold for over an hour, someone picked up and said, the extended warranty I purchased is not administered through them.
I then finally dug up my paperwork and called the number on the pamphlet that I got. Thankfully, they picked up right away, but said the battery is NOT covered under the extended warranty. It's my fault I didn't act on it sooner, but I think it should have been covered. The extended warranty obviously is not the same as the original warranty, as far as coverage. I didn't think twice when I purchased the warranty, but I'll be sure to read the fine print in the future.
Has anyone had any luck with the Sony extended service plan in getting their batteries replaced? Thanks. -
The extended warranty does not cover batteries, but the initial one year warranty does.
