If I were to buy a Vaio from Best Buy or Circuit City, could I buy the Sony warranty later on instead of the BB or CC warranty plan?

I called Sony just the other day with the same question. I was told 'YES'.

I will be doing exactly that on Tuesday and will be able to report for sure then.

Alright, thanks a lot! This is good news because the FZ has been backordered by two weeks and I need something a lot sooner. Off to Circuit City soon............

Give JR's a call 1-800-806-1115 ask for Terrence at Ext. #1054, tell him Robin sent you and I'll bet he'll give you a good deal.

Really?? How so, because I was planning on purchasing the AR for $1500 or so from Circuit City but it's not in stock and it's not available on JR.com either. I need to have it in my hands by this Friday or the 17th at the latest because I leave for college on the 18th.

Anyway, thank you for the tip, and will look to call tomorrow morning to order.

Yes you can, as long as it's more than 1 month prior to the expiration of your 1 year original warranty.

I purchased the basic 2 year extended warranty a month before my SZ260 turned a year old, this past May. I haven't had to use it yet, but I feel safer having it. Also, I bought it on newegg because their price was the best at the time. One more thing, the warranty I purchased covers years 2 and 3. Some of the warranties, like the accidental damage, start from the first year. So, if you're planning to buy the damage warranty, then you should buy it asap since it covers you from day 1. If you only want the basic extended warranty, you can wait until next year.
