You can try to apply Vista fix. I think it works on Windows XP as well because the problem and the solution exist since Windows NT 3.5 which was released long before Windows XP.

Sorry, I'm not Sony technical support and I don't have Windows XP to test the fix myself, so I cannot recommend it but only suggest. Lets wait for someone who is willing to test it on Windows XP.

I tried registry fix out on Windows XP Pro SP3 - SZ 650N.

Looks fine to me! Computer booted normally, everything is fine. As for the holding-a-key-down problem, I haven't ran into it again yet so I will post back if and only if it comes up again.

Thanks a bunch! I was googling the wrong query and I ended up not finding this thread earlier. Lucky for me.

Download archive attached to that post, it contains file keyboard_fix.reg, extract it from the archive and double click on it, you will be warned that an information will be added to the registry, agree to it, reboot, check the result.

Content of keyboard_fix.reg file can be viewed with notepad, if you want to view it, right click on it (the file should already be extracted) and a choose "Edit" from the appeared menu.

Thanks a lot for that little registry entry.
If it would have been just changing a number, I would have done that myself - but writng an entry seemed too dangerous to me.
(This entry did not exist on my laptop...)

Your little file solved this little nuissance (it wasn't really a problem) perfectly.

    Again, thanks a lot!

    (Speaking for Vista)

    All the best

Yes. Technically there is no difference how the fix is applied on Vista and on Windows XP - a certain value should be added to the registry, and that file does just that no matter which Windows version you have.

Confirmed working for Windows XP Pro! Haven't had a problem since, even while gaming (where this problem affected me most)

    Thanks!

Kudos to you, Silvery. It's been a couple weeks since I installed that registry fix, and I haven't ran into any problems with the CPU-load/freezing/slowdown. I used to have problems using Photoshop and playing infantry, but not anymore. I'm running Windows XP Pro SP2. And yes, reboot is required.
