I have Vista Business pre-installed, recovery disks that I burned when I first got the machine, and Sony's XP3 downgrade disk.

I would like a clean install of Vista. Is there any way to do it with what I have?

If a clean install of Vista is impossible with the disks I have (seems like it is), how can I do a clean install of XP3 when I only have the Sony downgrade disk (which I assume has all the Sony crapware morphed into it).

    "No" and "you can't".

You need to get Windows non-restore disks, and download the drivers from Sony and elsewhere to do a clean install.

There are instructions here on the forum for doing "semi-clean" installs using the restore disks, often in combination with a copy of a full Windows install disk. IMO, it's all a lot of dickering and work to get an imperfect and unsupported result, just to save the cost of buying another Windows CD+license.
