I have been with my z2 for just over a week and I'm thinking about buying an external monitor. What types of monitor are you guys using right now? i'm thinking about Dell as their price is decent and reviews are also not bad at all.

U2711, though need to use DTD calc to mod in a 35Hz refresh EDID to allow for 2560x1440 resolution. Otherwise, I'm normally fine with running it in upscaled 1920x1080 mode.

I'm looking at the U2212HM 1080p IPS 22" Dell monitors. I want to get two for dual screen for my Z (plus computer's monitor for three).

That's exactly my setup. Originally was going to use one in portrait mode, but found that they look great and serve my purpose in landscape mode. Whatever u do, throw away the VGA cables supplied. The monitors will flicker heavily and is a pain in the butt. Went to radio shack an bought 2 auvio hdmi to dvi cables and everything works wonderfully now.

What computer do you have? I just got a Targus USB Dock with DVI out today but I can't get it to work on my computer. I need this thing set up before I order the monitors to make sure it can handle two other monitors.

    I don't need an external monitor because I have a Vaio F :D

But it always struck me as odd that Sony, with such a prominent TV division, doesn't make its own external monitors for computers. Anyone know why?

Probably not profitable, really. They really lost importance in displays after CRTs faded from use.

As this gets a little bit OT right now...

    Quick review of a U2312HM:

I'm running a U2312HM @ 1920x1080 over DVI with my eGPU. Picture and viewing angle is great, calibrated to fit sRGB. Colors are not too vivid nor undersaturated. Contrast ratio is good, in dark scenes dell's eIPS glow is very visible. Right bottom corner has most glowing, that's a little downside. I've been using a U2311H before which was better in the dark but had worse backlight evenness (the new one is LED the old was CCFL). No bleeding or clouding at the new one as well. I Like the professional looks, its good stand and I have a dell soundbar connected. AFAIK, dell provides a dead pixel warranty. Price/value is awesome.

If you got more questions, I'm here.

Dell doesn't offer any old dead pixel warrenty. They offer a perfection warranty (not kidding. any flaw.... any. Any they will keep on swapping till perfection has been achieved ).

Only on their Ultrasharp monitors, of course :)

Appreciate your experience, fortunately, I never needed to send in a dell product yet.

Just checked the european dell website, seems that warranty differs between location. On the mentioned display, dell provides a "Premium Panel-Service" that covers dead or always-on pixels with a zero tolerance (Dead pixel class I - ISO 13406-2, that's the best class). Other than that, they provide a 3-year limited hardware warranty here. But they may replace a faulty product with a refurbished counterpart (dislike, as I take care of my things pretty much, didn't want a scratched, heavily used screen as a replacement for my as-good-as-new one).

That dell provides good and reasonable service for their products, is well-known. IMHO, you can't do anything wrong with that 190€ monitor.
