Hi everyone this is my first post on the forums.
What does a Quickly flashing yellow/orange battery light mean?
I bought a replacement battery pcga-BP2E for my sony vaio vgn 417M.It ran off the battery and showed it was charging but % didn't go up. Every time I connect the power cable the battery light flashes rapidly and I can't find in any manual what it means.
Using my original working battery the battery light flashes slowly as it should and the laptop works ok.
10 days and I am still waiting for a relpy from the supplier atleast I started my complaint through paypal.

My guess is that it means "faulty or non-Sony battery". Most VAIO laptops check the battery for a valid Sony serial number, and refuse to charge if it isn't present. Meaning that most 3rd party batteries can only be charged in external chargers, and (depending on the model) if the machine is turned off first, or if disabling the battery checking program (which also does battery care).

sounds like a bad battery. i bought one off of ebay a couple months ago for a cheap, cheap price and i paid for it.

Ok well I wounder if I should try a replacement battery from the same company?
It was difficult to get a battery for the laptop as it seems not all suppliers list that the PCGA-BP2E is compatiable for the VGN 417m. I could really do with finding its more populaur technicaly same twin, as i think the 17" models where just not very popular.
I tried to get an original sony battery but they dont seem to be avaialble, the laptop was state of the art 3 years ago costing nearly £900 a shame when everything else on it works fine. It does seem to have been one of those models that just disappears from the records.
