I was just curious about the S series users and their problems.

About a month (two months maybe) ago, everyone talked about the S series, however for the last 3 weeks I didn't see a single thread about type S.

Assuming that not all of us can instantly upgrade to a SZ, I really wonder what happened to the problems that we were discussing a month ago.

Come on people, did all of you stop tweaking and playing with you type S since the arrival of SZ?

    :D

I'll mention one. It's not a big deal, but I find that sometime after fresh reboot, the power management for the display isn't working. When running under battery, the brightness should be 4, but it starts in full brightness. Another time, it seemed to work, only to be changed to full brightness.

Valkyrie, I have the exact same problem and although it is a simple glitch, it drives me crazy... I really wonder why that happens. I was so sure that it was because of the nvidia driver that was modified (the latest driver with a modified inf file) but after a format using the regular driver I still have that problem.

I get good mileage out of my Vaio though. Using wifi and bluetooth, brightness at minimum, power saving mode on gpu, optical drive disabled, and with the help of undervolting I get around a little more over three hours.

Glad to see all of you guys around though!

Glad I'm not the only one. At first I thought it's some minor messed up driver but I don't feel like a reinstall just for that as it's not too annoying.

By the way I can mention about my problem, maybe it is not a problem but for long-run work with my laptop, it appears as a problem. Right palm-rest is warm, but for long-typings I am looking for a material that I can put under my right palm for heat isolation.
Do you know something about this kind of materials, products???

    Thank you,

Glad to see all those S Series users still out there :D

Ah the screen brightness, I've had my issues here too. While working in battery mode the display ould sometimes (every hour or so) switch to full brightness for a few seconds and then back to the setting I had. Very weird, but it could of been due to the modified nvidia driver I was using (81.98).
Have been playing around with higher drivers (82.xx, 83.xx) using those I can't adjust the brightness of my screen over the Fn keys at all. Trying to get that fixed at the moment ;)

Thanks to a tip from laptopvideo2go I fixed it, I had to add some code to the inf file and now brightness adjustment works again with 84.12 drivers :)

Avicenne you talked about a "power saving mode" for the GPU, what do mean? Did you lower the frequency of the graphics card in the Nvidia settings? With undervolting, wifi and bt off and brightness around medium settings I manage to squeeze around 3:20-3:30 from my Vaio. But thats basically not doing much more than reading pdf files.
