We're shopping for a notebook / convertible with an active digitizer, and we like the idea of something as big as the Flip 15. The problem is, everybody seems to be out of stock, and a lot of places list it as discontinued. Is there a replacement model? Did it just fall off the face of the earth? Or is this just a normal supply issue that will be resolved, and stock should show up soon?

That page lists 4 refurbs and one 14" model with low-res screen and no dGPU. sony.com seems to pretend that they don't make computers anymore (seriously, go to their homepage and try to find the computer section -- let me know if you succeed!) and when I found listings anywhere in the online store they all say "out of stock". Ditto listings on Newegg, Amazon, etc.

My point was, is it discontinued officially? Is there a "next" model in the works?

Mind you, that Geek Squad refurb is pretty damn attractive at $500 off, but we live in Europe and would have to mail-order via APO and so if we had refurb quality issues, we'd have a hard time doing the returns.

Just to follow up in case anybody is curious, I sort of figured out what I was missing today. I actually went to the Sony store and asked around. The guy explained that Sony had sold their Vaio division off and the new owners will be focusing on Japan only (at least for now).

Basically, Sony computers are going away, for all intents and purposes, if you live outside Japan. Seems like maybe this should be a sticky in the forum or something? It's kind of a big deal if you come here shopping for a Sony and realize you can't get them anymore :-/
