    i owned sony z1 for 3 years now. it went weird yesterday. i powered it up, windows xp logo shows up, couple seconds later, the system shuts down as if it doesn't get any power supply. i thought it was the hard disk, but i have replaced and it still does same thing. let me know.

    Make sure all the power leads are in. If it on battery it could be a fault in the battery. Does safe mode work? Also to make sure its not a windows problem boot into the BIOS and see if it happens there.

    sounds like something like the mobo or the gpu got fried. Did your notebook get really hot? adequate cooling? and like radditz said could be an old battery as well.
