With my hard drive that fried, I need to get another HD. I can't wait for Sony to fix it...

Is the SZ160 using a SATA 2.5" drive or is it IDE ?
    any recommended brand?

    Thanks
    JY

The SZ's hard drive is SATA, so get a SATA instead of a P-ATA.

In terms of brand, here's my list based on my experience/preference:

    Hitachi (IBM):
Pros: Fastest Hard drives (a 5400 rpm hdd runs as fast as a 7200rpm from other brands), reliable
Cons: shorter lifetime, not very quiet during operation

    Seagate:
Pros: Reliablity is #1, super fast, quiet
    cons: some heat

    Fujitsu:
    pros: reliable, quiet
    cons: slower than other brands
