what is VAIO CARE? is it necessary for me to have it or can i uninstall from my notebook?
-
Sounds like unnecessary bloatware to me. You'd be fine with a clean install and Sony's drivers. Generally, 90% of OEM pre-installed software is just crapware.
-
But still, does anyone know what VAIO CARE is? what is it's function?
-
Checking Google, it's some kind of software support package that appears to be subscription-based if you want to use it on a long-term basis. It's not necessary, just more bloatware. You can get free support elsewhere.
-
Run it and you will know what it does.
-
actually, it's good software. the version that came with my z is. lately, sony has started to include some software that you might use instead od completely useless crap.
-
They will tell you :This issue is not covered in warranty
That is just their sarcasm -
If I recall when it was on my original hard drive running Vista64, VAIO CARE sat on the sys tray. When launched, it would do all the maintenance stuff... including but not limited to:
- reaching back to Sony's support site to check if there were updated drivers specific to my VGN-FW
- checked registry & hard drive for opportunities to do clean-up or defrag
IOW, stuff you could very well do manually on your own.
There was another component that provided options to contact Sony Support. Never explored that side of it.
Ever since swapping in a new drive with Windows7 RC on it, I hadn't bothered to add any of Sony's utilities and bloatware -- part of the whole reason I was so eager to move into a new OS in the first place. It's been at least five months since running clean & free of the bloatware and I haven't missed it. -
What do you use to defragment and optimize registry? When I used Vaio Care, it often reported and fixed some registry issues.
-
Another question: How about Vaio Update, do you use it?
-
Im getting an error during install everytime I try to update or clean install 7!!! -
VAIO Care is just a repackaged and stripped down version of Auslogic's BoostSpeed.
Sony did an ugly job on the repackaging part. The interface looks amateur.
I think Sony's US VAIO division needs to hire real software engineers. Software and hardware go together. I don't think Sony understands that yet. They still operate as if they are in the 80s. The hardware is fine because it is designed and engineered in Japan. The software division in Japan is decent, but due to multitude of legal reasons and what not, Sony has a "redundant" software division in the US, India, or China, which hires unqualified software engineers--hence the lack of proper driver updates, etc.
Gah, Sony US expect its consumers to be hackers of sort. If it wasn't some of the great people on this forum, I'd still be running on a uber buggy video driver and suffering from continuous crashes...
