I performed a clean install of XP, installed the connection manager from Sprint which automatically upgraded the firmware of the WAN modem to version 145.

For various reasons I reinstalled Vista using the recovery disks and now the SmartWi application never gets past "connecting". I'm wondering if the problems I am having connecting with the Sprint WAN card have anything to do with the firmware upgrade.

Would someone mind telling me what firmware number a stock TZ's evdo modem has? Has anyone else experienced this issue?

BTW, you can find out the firmware # of the WAN modem by opening up smartWi and choosing "diagnostics"

Could anyone tell me what their firmware # is?

    thanks.

OK, so I learned some stuff. Upgrading your firmware allows smartWi to connect much faster than with v135. Also, upgrading does not disable your WAN card... not paying your Sprint bill does.

After I paid the bill, everything worked great.

However a nice trick learned is in order to access the "reset" option for your modem, hover over the Sprint "arrow" logo (within the smartWi application) with your mouse, and press "##rtn"
