I have a default program on my VAIO that randomly pops up news headlines at the top of my screen (see attachment). I want to eliminate unnecessary programs running in the background, and this is certainly one I do not need. Does anyone know what this is so I can uninstall it?

That's Vaio Gate. If you don't want to uninstall it, you can go to the settings and turn RSS to 0 sec which is Off. Or you can set it to not load at startup if you don't want to run it but don't want to uninstall it. Pull down Vaio Gate from the top of the screen and on the right is a settings button.

One of the most useful VAIO programs! I love it! But I also disabled RSS (set it to 0 sec).
