Okay, I was looking at emachines for a long time. I was looking at them because I am forced to buy my laptop at best buy. It will save me money. I know the manufacttering company is cheaper, but I have a best buy card with a lot of money on it. (every computer,tv,stereo,cd,game) has been bought at best buy. So I have a lot of reward points or whatever. And I do not have the actual money to buy from a company.

Now the eMachine scared me off with the hinge problem. I might still get it, but I am a weary.

The other brand that I would like is Sony. When I went to best buy the sony laptops where my favirote.

The most money I can spend is $1700

I want a 4-6 pound laptop that looks good. I want a DVD-RW (its a must actually) and I want good speakers and at least a 64 mb ATI card. The screen does not matter as much, but I would like it to be crsip and bright with a good resuloution, but size does not matter as I am looking for a thin and light.

Would some one who knows a lot about sonys go to Best Buy website and see what they have?

    I love soup.

I found one that is perfect except for the price tag:

Everything looks good, and I can live with a 7.3 lb notebook.
Its less then the eMachine actually. Now the giga tv record thing
looks cool and I would love to have it, but mabey the price would drop if I asked best buy for one with out the gigapocket. The XBRITE
screen looks really good, in fact at best buy it stood out from the rest, it was the first laptop i looked at. It also has a pentium M, thats a plus. What kind of battery life doesw it have? It will take
some convincing my parents to help me out with the cost, unless you can not get the gigapocket. I need the dvd writer so I can put my massive VHS collection onto DVD and watch them in my room. The ati card looks good, and it could play a game like Battlefield Vietnam. I don't need it to play far cry or anything like that. I will mostly be animating and doing photshop on this (and watching movies) so it does not need to be an advanced gaming machine.

It looks perfect, just wanna see what you guys think about it and wheter or not takeing away the gigapocket would give it a lower price.

    Thanks.

    ewww

    It says:

RADEON 9200 with 64 mb of VRAM

This is a typo as the 9200 has 32 mb of VRAM

I hope the correct reading would be:

RADEON 9600 with 64 mb of VRAM

    and not

RADEON 9200 with 32 mb of VRAM

    Which is it?

Snd someone who is good with sonys please read all of the posts i have made in this topic and please answer the questions as I need to know as soon as possible.

    thanks

I think it's a Radeon 9200 with 64 MB RAM because every website says so. Only the 17" models are equipped with 64 MB Radeon 9700.

However, there are some discrepancies in the specs posted on BestBuy. Here is the "official" (but may not be entirely correct) specs of A150:

    http://www.sonystyle.com/intershoproot/eCS/Store/en/documents/specifications/vgn-a150_spec.pdf

I don't see a GigaPocket, nor a 1920x1200 screen. You might want to call BestBuy or go to talk to them again.

    Okay Dokey.

I will be at best buy on monday.

I was wondering, does best buy let you upgrade things?

Because a an A150 or a S170 would be great if I could tweak it a little.

    I want a 64mb VRAM radeon 9600/9700

    I want XBRITE

    I want a DVD writer.

I am looking at these sites on an old P1, so could someone tell me if Best Buy lets you upgrade things from the ready to order package they sell.

If you can then please go to sonystyle.com and customize the laptop there and tell me what I should expect for the price. And I know some things might be diffrent at best buy then sony style, but this would give me a good idea.

    SHOULD I BUY A SONY?
