I have had my Sony Vaio FZ15G for over a year now (purchased September 2007) and I have found it to have fairly regular problems.

In June 2008 I took the laptop to Sony saying that the amount of heat it was producing was far from normal. I said I was concerned the whole laptop would fry itself and asked that they check it. They apparently did and in the process blamed me for not keeping the laptop clear of dust.

2 months (August 2008) the motherboard and graphics process/card/adapter died because of over heating (what a surprise!). They refused to acknowledge that I was right about the over heating issue. All this happened around the time that Nivida admitted problems in the 8 series mobile cards. They said that wasn't a problem.

Now a second/third problem has emerged. I have recently been having regular blue screens (two or three a week along with freezes). Then on Thursday morning my power supply/adapter died, not a problem with the laptop itself, although I can't obviously use it.

I am intending to take the laptop back to Sony and request a full refund under the New Zealand Consumer Guarantees Act. I am not sure if I have much like since I purchased the product over a year ago. However, they did renew my warranty for another year after the motherboard problem.

I was wondering do you guys have any advice for me?

Well, I am no familiar with NZ's law and court system, so I am not sure how likely you can win this one, either. I think it's the right course of action, though, as Sony has not been proactive on this nVidia fiasco. Now, I may not ask for full refund but ask for partial refund or a trade-in credit toward a new Sony purchase to increase the likelyhood of success (and somewhat fair too because the laptop is not dead every day).

At any rate, good luck and definitely let us know what happens. I bought an FZ this April too and I expect I may have to deal with the same situation come next March/April.
