I got my new FZ290 and I'm checking to make sure everything works correctly. This is my first laptop so I really don't know what to expect and would like some reassurance that things are normal.

    1. Is the left side of the computer and all of the wrist pad suppose to get almost uncomfortably warm? I have it resting on 4 legs so the computer is not in contact with any surface.

    2. Is the fan suppose to stay at a continuous level or is it suppose to go up and down? Kind of like revving a car motor--up and down, up and down... and is it suppose to stay on while the computer is on?

    3. Is the dvd drive suppose to make continuous knocking sounds--kind of like an old dot matrix printer? I've had the dvd playing for 15 minutes and there is no whiring, spinning sound (like on a desktop) just the knocking?

I'd appreciate any input and hope I don't sound crazy. If there's a lemon to be had I'm sure to get it.

    TIA

umm... hmm. I have a FZ290 also, got it in December.

    1. I haven't noticed it ever getting very warm, unless I watch a Blu-ray movie on it.

    2. My fan goes up and down, but it usually takes a while for each stage. It will be very quiet, but then kick in and be a little louder if I start doing something that takes more processing power.

    3. The DVD does make knocking sounds, but only when I first put in a movie, or when I fast forward the movie or something, not when it's just playing.

    Hope this helps.
