the next generation is the FA

which stands for Far Away, as in the next generation is not going to come anytime soon as the FW was just released last year.. especially with the economic recession, sony is not going to be introducing notebooks for a while

Like has been said in all the other "When are the new VAIO's coming out?" threads, we'll probably see major new models, and not just refreshes when the new Intel platform comes out later this year alongside the Windows 7 launch.

You can be forever asking yourself "when will the next gen be released?", and then something else beyond the horizon will look better than that, and the cycle repeats.

I've found with computer hardware the best thing to do is just buy what you need when you need it, otherwise you'd never buy anything nor get anything done. You only get a finite time to live, so I'd rather be using hardware than putting everything on hold while waiting for the next best thing (whatever that may be).

At least with hardware that's been released a couple of months you've got to hear about what other users think of it, rather than buying blind.

That said, I am partly sad that I can't afford to wait for the next Intel platform or Win7, but I need my laptop now to do work outside in the spring/summer (otherwise I'd be unproductive this whole summer, effectively writing off a year). I reckon Win7 wont be released until Q3 or Q4 2009, which is several seasons away, a whole spring, summer and autumn away, and no doubt the prices will be slightly higher when the new platform arrives.

    LOL!

the next generation intel Calpella is due late this year (2009), which means that the next generation FW should be out late this year or early next year.

im expecting it will be a minor facelift-ed design.

the intel platform and cpu wont be minor though.

but wait a a couple more month and there is another thing coming, wait a bit more then there is something coming again, you never buy anything that way. the current intel offering is very good already.
