What do you want to see in the future release of SZ, perhaps SZ 6xx or 7xx?
Personally I want to see:
1. Built in Blue Ray DVD player.
2. 16X SL DVD burner, 8x DL DVD burner.
3. 512 MB Dedicated Video card memory.
4. 8 GB RAM.
5. 10k RPM harddrive.
6. Replaceable WWAN Simcard that can be used with any ISP, not just Cingular.
6. Maintain the weight and dimension but better built quality please.

Maybe in 2-3 years
Not anytime soon.
"Replaceable WWAN Simcard that can be used with any ISP, not just Cingular" I think can would be done, but not in US / CA. -
usapatriot Notebook Nobel Laureate
1. Cheaper Prices.

I'd like to see them (or Vaio's in general) actually being sold here...
Well, actually, it doesn't matter. I just ordered a Thinkpad instead... But the SZ's still look nice... -

8GB RAM on a laptop? Get real. 4GB is exorbitant in cost ($1000+). The architecture only supports 4GB.
There is no 10k hard drive for laptops. However, if SSD disks come down in price where there is at least 64GB SSD disks, now we're talking. -
as it stands now the WWAN Module can be used with any Sim Card provider. Just call Sony Support and they will explain.

HSPDA (3G) vice EDGE
Flash Drive vice rotating HDD.
Battery that lasts three hours. -
I know I'm pessimistic but I doubt there will even be a SZ6XX or SZ7XX. I think the most Sony will come out with is a SZ5XX & they will just come out with a newer design to replace the SZ series when the Santa Rosa or a newer platform comes out.... This will be like how the SZ series replaces the S series.
-
- Better graphics card, DX 10 compatible?
- Support for 4GB memory?
- 100% Vista support
- Carbon fibre, Led backlight, camera and fingerprint reader for every model
- 7200 rpm HD
- No Blu-ray
- 802.11n -
lol 8GB of RAM.
that would be awesome -- not exactly sure how I'd use it though.
I can hardly push 4GB to 90%+ -
8GB of RAM would be a TOTAL waste right now. Maybe in a few years there will be an OS that sould use it. There is no software right now or that will come out in the next year which would support our Vaio's and 8 GB RAM.
Now, solid state hard drives or internal flash drives, that would be useful right now. Unfortunately they are VERY expensive. But a nice 100GB solid state drive would be nice.
So that and the 3G WAN and this machine would be awsome for the next couple of years...with the requisite video upgrades. -
So do we expect a new SZ in Q3 with Santa Rosa inside?
-
I would like to see the VAIO lettering on the case to light up
...I'm shallow...I know
...oh and a better camera and solid 4GB support...but definately the VAIO sign to light up. -
I want S video and Digital in and out!
Thats all I want. -
CH28Kid also need crystal LCD screen to prevent scratches. Liquid metal carbon fiber casing (liquid metal is impossible to scratch) and a flexible LCD itself with regenerating pixles
oh and 24/7 butler service with a Vaio tech to tote SZ off for service or repair on site

OK, here are my wishes (but based on real stuff that's out there or will be soon
):
- Core2Duo based on 45nm architecture (less power needed, less heat, same or better performance)
- 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR2 memory that runs on 667MHz or 800MHz (possible on Santa Rosa)
- 96GB - 160GB SSD
- Santa Rosa graphics chipset + GeForceGo 8400 (hybrid graphics)
- DVD-+ R/RW DL (same speeds as the ones in SZ4xx or better)
- Integrated card reader (CF, SD, MS, MMC, XD)
- Integrated GPRS/EDGE/UMTS/HSDPA modem
- 13.3" screen with LED backlight
- DVI out instead of VGA
- PCMCIA and ExpressCard slots (34/54 if possible)
- BT 2.0 EDR with ADP
- WiFi a/b/g/n
- Gigabit ethernet
- 1.3 MP camera
- Fingerprint reader
- Possibility for External PCI-Express 8x/16x Cabling (to be able to use desktop gfx cards at home)
- Improved carbon-fiber casing with ionized aluminium reinforcements where needed
- Smaller power adapter
- At least 3.5 hour battery (but real 3.5 h, not Sony's !)
- Same or smaller weight
- Windows Vista Bussines DVD included for easier clean installations !
- No bloatware pre-installed !
- Instant ON function (no OS load) just for watching DVDs, DivXs and CDs
I believe I do not ask for impossible. -
I want them to give up on the stupid faux docking station look (the bottom part of the SZ in the dark plastic mimics the look of the docking station of the 505 model from years ago).
My girlfriend just got a MacBook and my SZ looks really clunky next to it. The SZ design is a hodgepodge of colors and angles. It really doesn't look 'all of a piece' if that makes any sense. -
1. Santa Rosa graphics chipset + go8600 (hybrid graphics)
2. 4GB (1GB x 4)
Santa Rosa has onchip wireless n so use wireless pci card space for 2 more RAM sockets or heat pipe for cooling go8600.
What you want to see in new SZ line
