OK, reading through various threads, notice that various people have mentioned getting the Z from Japan. So a few questions if that's OK. Newbie here with my 2nd thread on this forum.
1. What are the advantages of a Japan 'Z'?
2. What is the cost premium?
3. Any disadvantages besides the cost premium?
4. Finally, which vendor?
Thanks,
UL

1. theoretically, the build quality is better, i personally dont know, i never had a problem with vaios built in the USA (CTO'd)
2. i think that there is no premium as most pre-configed are from japan, the only place where i saw a price difference in the same config was a p1, where the japanese version was +200 dollars
3. don't think there are.. but the japanese versions can have the cover customizes and you have the option for choosing a stronger processor (2.8Ghz with a 35w power, consumes more power, lower battery life, but not a lot from what ive read here) -

Wow, what a forum. Ask a question and informed responses in moments.
Keep the comments coming.
I'm wondering about warranty - does the 3 year actually come from Sony? And if one is in the USA, how does the warranty work? And what about accidental damage?
Love those cover options from Japan- beautiful stuff.

Yes, but the 3 year warranty would only be valid in Japan. You could buy an international 1 year warranty for your Japanese Z for extra though.
Many here have bought their Japanese Vaios from an importer like Conics or Dynamism who you could send your laptop to and they will send it to Sony Japan for repair, they are a third party.
I wonder why Japanese get 3 years of warranty and all of us only get one.
What's 'Japan' Z?
