Does anyone know what the newest BIOS update released by Sony is supposed to do as far as making your computer work with Vista? BIOS Ver. R0092N0.

It will increase shared memory for both GPU to run with aero glass Vista. You have to update Bios before install Graphic driver.

How should a BIOS increase the memory?
    Vista is not magic.
The BIOS just lets Vista control the shared memory and makes the GPU more compatible.

The amount of memory was the same in VISTA before I flashed the BIOS.

I don't know what are you talking about. But if you install Vista without update BIOS your GPU memory will stay 128MB (shared)instead 335MB(shared) after update.

Maybe this depends on the BIOS you had installed before.

128MB dedicated + 256MB shared, that what it should be and which is used by Aero.

BTW.: are walking about the nVidia 7400Go or the Intel 950GMA? :D

According to Sony support in Japan, the bios update makes Vista handle more memory (up to 335MB) for GPU. Without Bios update it is 128mb. By the way, the dedicated memory of GPU in SZ is 64mb, not 128mb.

After flashing the new BIOS, check to verify that you still have dual processors operating. (Ctrl/Alt/Del, click on the performance tab, & see if you have 2 CPU Usage History charts.)

I sent my SZ340 back for CD/DVD burner replacement & they flashed the latest BIOS. When I looked at the CPU Usage History charts, only 1 was there! Per a posting in another thread, I entered the BIOS & reset it to default settings...then my dual CPU's appeared.

Add SLIC (SLP 2.0) Table into BIOS ACPI to Activate Windows Vista, Microsoft is using SLP 2.0 (System Locked Preinstallation) technology for activation process of OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) edition of Windows Vista on branded PC. One of the requirement to activate Windows Vista with OEM product key is the existance of SLP public key and SLP marker which stored in SLIC table in ACPI. If you have older motherboard with no updated BIOS with SLIC table, the BIOS has to be patched or hacked to add in SLIC table plus OEMID and OEMTableID. The original instruction to add in SLIC information involves method to replace an existing ACPI description table, which may affect some functionalities of computer.

No. It did not add SLIC table. I checked RSDT area of my upgraded bios with Everest Ultimate, but it did not contain OEM marker in RSDT for VISTA. Yes, RSDT has the name of "Sony", but it does not allow to use OEM Vista. If BIOS upgrae adds SLIC table for OEM Vista, this means that you can activate OEM VISTA on any Vista Capable PC from Sony by simple BIOS upgrade (This means you don't need to buy VISTA. You could activate it for free). However, of course not. Sony is not a fool.

Oh my god. Do you mean that your bios has SLIC table by simple bios upgrade from Sony? Which SZ are you using? I have a SZ210 and its bios version is R0092N0. But mine does not show any SLIC table. Did you flash the SZ3XX bios update(R0094N0)? If it adds SLIC table, this means...

Free VISTA for ALL SZ users...
