I got 2007. Demo version default benchmark.

Forceware 167.43 for Vista (last official version from Windows Update). Vista Business.

    Sony VGN-SZ381P
    Core 2 Duo 2.33GHz
    3GB RAM.
GeForce Go 7400 64MB Dedicated VRAM

Not sure why my score is lower eventhough we have the same GPU and my CPU is a bit faster and my RAM is larger. Perhaps its the driver thing.

At any rate, benchmarking SZ laptop with 3DMark 2005 is laughable. Our rigs barely meet the minimum system requirements. The frame rate never goes above 15fps and in some scenes, it's averaged at 5fps. I guess it shows you that SZ is definetly not designed for latest gaming. It plays older games very smooth though with all details maxed out.

Then 3DMark06 would probably be laughable.

I'm building a new desktop gaming rig next week, so I'll be running the whole series of benchmarks to test it out, I may as well install them on this new AR670 and see how it fares...

    And here we go:

    3DMark03: 13457
    3DMark05: 8208
    3DMark06: 3965

Not too shabby for a notebook, I reckon. I remember building expensive gaming desktop rigs just a couple years ago that didn't do this well.

I was just gona dl 3dMark but H3rmaN saved me the job.
I can add that games that I've tried witht the above comp are bf2/2142 and they both run smoooth with maxed out settings. Although nhc indicated high temps they barely got over 60C (cpu). I get weird error reports "gpu has shut down and restarted" every now and then though.

I would say it's the GPU. Performance between Nvidia generations jumps dramatically. An 8400 is probably close to twice as fast as a 7400, I would guess, considering an 8800 series desktop card was nearly twice as fast as a 7800.

Not much of 3DMark benchmarks are CPU based, and the difference between your CPU's is only about 10%. So CPU would have played little part in score between you. He might also be running XP and you Vista, since Vista can be as much as 20% slower in DX9 games.

what results do you get in 3DMark06 mate?

The whole point of 3DMark is to test your PC's 3D capabilities, which basically means putting all the pressure onto the GPU!! So a better GPU will make ALL the difference! The CPU does very little when it comes to 3D graphics!

I just built a new desktop gaming rig, and am getting 14030 in 3DMark06. And they call the AR a "desktop replacement." :)

Don't get me wrong, I'm quite happy with the AR670, and I didn't buy it with gaming in mind. For a notebook it's great, probably the best I've ever had. It's just funny that despite the impressive specs, it still makes a pretty mediocre gaming machine. I'm actually surprised that with a 2.4Ghz C2D, 4GB RAM, and an 8600M GT, that it's still less than 1/3 as fast as the desktop.

My score on 3DMARK06 went from 1050 with Vista "clean" and hybrid hard drive,
Now my score is 1526 with upgraded Hard Drive and Clean XP install.

Roswell makes a nice external Hard Drive case that lets me use the hybrid as an external USB or plug it into a SATA docking station on my Desktop. A much better use for the Hybrid Drive.
