does anyone know which is the best top of the line flagship from sony?

    thanks in advance.

    EDITED:

want to get teh best multimedia notebook with blue ray - i am totally disappointed in the crappy macbook pro next generation i bought because it has absolutely no blue ray and as of now we have black banned apple product and distant ourselves from their product.

Apple do not care about customers like myself who are into blu rays and they want to rip me off with the highest price for the lowest spec machine. i bought it because i like the unibody and that's about it the rest of the mac book pro is nothing to me.

Now i am looking at the real laptop such as sony that has the best blue ray and stuff in it.

i get the z series is like the sony z series tv which is the flag ship of their sonly tv product?

if this is the case then i am looking at the z but i saw the aw 18.4 series at a shop and it doesnt look that hot to me. but then again i do want portability plus blue ray and watching hi def dirty adult movies from online store.

gaming i dont care about i have desktop computer for gaming. i just want a lptop that is ultra fast powerful and can handle fast encrypting as well as decrtyping of files i want to hide on my laptop.

i also need this laptop to be able to encode and decode video really fast. i am not happy with today's encoding and decoding time. sick and tired of being lied to by companies boasting their own product with nothing to back it up.

    this is what i need.

    1. powerful cpu Extreme CPU Quad core 3Ghz or more
    2. plenty of DDR3 RAM over 4 gig with minimal speed of 1333Mhz made for FSB 1066 at least
    3. blue ray
    4. encoding and decoding huge video files very fast.
    5. encrypting and decrypthing the entire hard drive really fast (today's technology is like prehistoric machine to me i am from the furture trapped in human world)
    6. Dedicated Video card with at least 512Megs RAM (preferably 1 gig at least)
    7. True HD screen resolution of 1980x1080
    8. most importantly it must look sexy, classy, and also have the WOW factor to attract the pretty females at the internet cafes.

    thanks ....

The Sony Z is the best laptop in the Sony lineup because their niche is generally portable, mobile laptop.

Ofcourse the 18.4" AW is their highest screen offering but considering how powerful they packed the 13" Z with, it wins hands down in terms of luxurious design, features and Centrino 2 specs.

FW CTO for me. Best balance between portability, screen real estate and Blu-ray/gaming goodness!

    Cheers,

TT, Z & AW they are all the top of the line, but if you are talking about the flagship it has to be the Z. ;)

I would say the highest model of the AW series with RGB LED.

But it's not the sort of laptop you'll carry around. So we need more info. What size do you prefer?

    a. Netbook; 10” screen or less
    b. Ultraportable; 11" - 12” screen
    c. Thin and Light; 13" - 14" screen
    d. Mainstream; 15" - 16" screen
    e. Desktop Replacement; 17"+ screen

Without any discussion, the Z series is flagship of Sony. Somewhere I saw an interview of some ceo of Sony admitting that is their best model. If you control also the sales the Z is top in Sony's models. And it costs a premium, so is not that they buy it because is cheap! :)

Untill last year I would say the TZ...but now I agree with the above opinions.
Z series all the way. I will wait one more year untill I can afford it, and hopefully the blu-ray drive will be quicker.

Could you elaborate on this? I'm looking at a Z myself and am greatly interested in the Blu Ray player. Is it not good for playing back blu-ray movies? What speed is it? What do you hope it to be in the future?

Sounds like you're after a Dell Precision M6400 Covet rather than anything Sony has to offer at the moment.

The Z is too small to attract anyone at the opposite side of a cafe, it sports at most 4Gb of RAM. The AW comes with at most 6Gb of RAM, still not much compared to the 16Gb of M6400.

    Edit,
Seems like Dell removed the option of 64bit operating system + 6-16Gb RAM from the M6400 from the US and the UK, I guess you could call them and inquire about it. It's still there on the Swedish page.

The letters are usually separate pieces glued on the lid, so you'd be able to get them off probably.

Just noticed it doesn't come with blu ray, though.

If you look at the pictures on the page the logo is also really small, so you could probably just cover it somehow.
