Just wanted to start something fun. My favorite thing about my Z is this kick butt screen....I love the 1600 resolution.

I don't own a Z but the main attraction for it with me is the 1600x900 option, highest ever in a 13" notebook and the gorgeous screen in general, especially the color reproduction. The 72% NTSC gamut my TZ's LCD can reach already is superior to most other laptops I've seen and the Z/TT is 100%. Colors truly look very different on them compared to other LCDs, that's in a good way.

The Z's color reproduction blows away all the other display models next to it in the store, even the Vaio SRs and FWs. The TZ/TT/Z show amazing colors. For instance, yellows really look yellow on my TZ, but then look like gold then when I look at my brother's Compaq.

Its also a bad thing, I've been spoiled by my screen and am thinking of getting a gaming notebook as my next one but its LCD just won't be as good, I'll just have to live with it. :)

the screen is very nice! I have the 768 screen. One thing i have noticed is that moving pictures around the screen and other screen movement causes graininess in the area, i have noticed this on 3 different z I can't be the only one to notice it? it doesn't bother me though...

My favourite thing: the power to weight ratio :)

1.48 kg for a powerful "desktop replacement". All my work, all my software, everywhere.

My favourite thing: battery drain from 90% to 60% in about 2 hours with the laptop off

    "It's a feature!"

I understand your frustration. However on my Z21 I use the exended battery with the battery control SW on, only charging it up o 80%. With that configuration I have never had any issues of drainage so far.

I love the 1600x900 screen resolution, the powerfull graphic & processor for such a small machine and the light-weight. I mainly useit for work and I travel quite a bit by plane, s it perfectly siutes my needs for small dimensions. Still I am also a gamer and the Z21 gives me enough perfomance to play my favorite one (being strategy games though, not hooters). Also the overall build quality is extremely good.

If I would have to complain a bit, I would mention that I experience some lag in the keyboard, i.e. sometimes (too often for my taste) I loose keystrokes because of my rather fast typing.

Anyway, what an exciting machine. :D

    Just my 2 cents.

at 80% u will neve have any drain but try to darin it to 75 or less and then turn it off , then u will see the drain again !!

the best thing that it drains the battery while it's off !! :D :D

It means when you power of your laptop at night, let's say 24.00 with 100% charge. The next day at 09:00 it may have lost 8% for example. So it will be 92%.

the only way to avoid this is to remove the battery from the laptop.

What's your recommendation in order to avoid battery drain - always have the laptop connected to the ac-adapter during the night?

P.s. how long is the warranty on the battery?
    Kind regards

Always remove the battery when working on AC.

This is better for the lifespan of the battery as well.

How do you see with that high resolution? Do you have to look at it 1" from the screen?

I like the Z cause it is light and it got HDMI and yah, no fingerprint city on the keyboard and no glossy screen!

    Plus palm rest stays cool.

The screen is just great and speaker is great.

Only thing is the fan is always on.

Hmmm, my only complaint with my Z is the speakers. They distort prettymuch, even at low volumes. Maybe mine's defective.

Anybody else have distortion from their Z speakers?

No, I do own one, for a week then return it back to fry's
No matter what the threshold charge is, the battery drain problem should not happen, period.
And yes, I'm a anti-fanboy, that's still better than a fanboy who is blind to weaknesses of a machine.
I have used a total of 6 laptops this past 5 years, and none of the machine ever has this problem. But what ever suit your taste I guess

I agree Sony should fix this issue.

Buit then again, show me a machine that has no flaws. The screens I've seen on Lenovo's aren't up to par with Sony. Nor is the design in my opinion.

Besides all the things already said, I like that most things can be done without worrying about anything...

For example: Plugging in a beamer

A lot of Laptops need a reboot to detect it, I just plug it into my Z and... it works =)

Besides that the Z is just cute xD
Small and slim but so very powerful

But there are always two sides..
    .

What I don't like about the Z is the patronizing done by sony...
like the crippled BIOS and the automatically underclocked CPU on battery

Guys what are you looking at when you work on the Z?

Yep, is the screen! The screen of the Z is something amazing!

Impressed by it's performance as well, and battery life. For me is going to be the perfect laptop when I will upgrade the 5400rpm hard drive to SSD. I have the battery drain as well, but the pros of this machine are so many that is really minor issue imo. it play COD 4 without any flaw.. :)

Yes, unfortunately, Sony does have the best screen in Windows laptop category. However, I do have a X61t with SXGA+ Flexview screen so I'm good to go. Also, I never said that I hate Sony. I do have their TZ-series laptop which I used as a light travel companion ;)

Well, I think there are two things that people need to remember before they report battery drain:

    1. First, it takes up to 5% charge to boot up and another up to 5% charge to shut down. If you want to examine whether you have battery drain, shut down with the machine plugged, then unplug and leave it for a while, then finally plug in and start.

    2. Do your battery break-in by complete discharge and recharge 2-3 times before you test battery drainage.

I am pretty sure I am not the only one that saw battery drain before doing the two steps above and then saw battery drain completely gone after doing the two... ;)

i have a question about the 1600x900 screen resolution. it actually makes the screen bigger if i'm not mistaking. my question is, is it as big as the screen on the vaio sr?

im still deciding on buying the z or the sr.

Over the SZ670: more vivid screen, screen reflects less light, lighter and smaller package with the 'Smart Protection' case, less heat output, raised palmrest, better-feeling and quieter keypresses. Feeling cool living on the bleeding edge  Hope Sony reads this and techadventure's other post on what we least like, too.

Higher resolution does not make the screen physically larger. The SR screen is 13.3" with 1200x800 (pixels), and the Z is 13.1" at 1366x768. More info. at Pulp's guide http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=319652

best thing about my z is that it works again!

otherwise, i love almost every aspect of it.... the screen is especially great, and i only have the 1366x768 res.
