So Ive got a used Vaio z11
-13.1 1920x1080
-512gb quad raid ssd
-8gb ram
-i7 processor
-carbon fiber
its got two small cracks on the lower bezel of the monitor
-keyboard and palm rest show minor wear
-comes with extended batter, leather case, and vaio docking station
i was looking to get around $1000 FOR IT but the cracks themselves might sorta deflate the value....what would my z be worth?
what about other z's with standard 128gb ssd and 1600x900 res?
thanks

Where are you located?

I recently purchased a brand new Z12 with the exact same specs you quote (plus WWAN - which you didn't mention and a lot of people find valuable) for $1,100 - so I would imagine that a used Z11 with damage is worth less than $1,000.
But YMMV - and many (including myself) still consider a mint i7 / 512gb SSD / FHD Z1 to be pretty much priceless. -

@DiscCollector: Congrats on your great pickup! I share your sentiments entirely. I have gone through many an ultrabook to find a reason to retire my Z1 and cannot honestly say there is yet to be a newer model with significantly better - if even as good - performance and absolutely zero - of this I am confident - that have the combination of performance, versatility and a virtual absence of negatives, the ratty speakers being the only aspect of this true "classic" that mars it's otherwise nearly perfect profile. (Of course, there is one - and only one - laptop I'm aware of that has even worse on board audio: the Z2 and SVZ13, each with the same absolutely horrible speakers, worse by far than my 2007 Blackberry's!)
I have the same configuration as you do, except it's a Z13 (difference?) and, regrettably, only 256GB SSD. If I had the need for more storage I would first max out the two SD slots (standard SD and Sony "Magic Gate") and only if the additional 96GB became insufficient would I put a giganto 2.5" SSD in the DVD drive bay. The reason I don't prefer to do that now is that I don't yet find I need the capacity and, silly as it may sound, I do find it comforting to have the DVD drive without having to carry an external drive for those 6 times a year or so when I need to use a DVD. BesidesI somehow feel it mars the "Swiss Army Knife" quality of this amazing 4 year old, 3 lb machine. One other thing that keeps it up to date for me is the use of an ExpressCard USB3 port. The added speed can be really valuable when transferring large files from a USB3 external HD, and it's fun to brag that I have a 3 lb. ultraportable with 4 USB ports! (Really wows people when you tick off the list of everything this little miracle laptop has: the 4 USBs with one a USB3, full size gigabit ethernet, HDMI, VGA, ExpressCard, 8GB dual channel, user replaceable RAM (so many ultrabooks costing up to $1,500 still have only 4GB and single channel), phenomenal FHD screen that still has the widest color gamut of any 13" laptop in existence (Though, to be honest, I prefer the 900p screen on that model because it still has 100% sRGB coverage and it is way, way brighter and has far better contrast than the 1080p. Can't go wrong with either.)
Anyway, fun to find a fellow devotee, who hasn't trashed their Z1 for an anemic, expensive Ultrabook with a shiny touchscreen!
Best,

Where did you pick a new Z12 with those specs that cheap?
If I were in the US, I'd take that Z1, but unfortunately I am in Europe(which means shipping+customs = more than the laptop in this case)
-
Bump on where did you buy a VAIO that cheap

Feel free to PM me if you want to have some help sourcing one in the US and getting it shipped as used, low price, so the duty is kept low.
Cheers -
I may take you up on that in the very near future, since DC is not responding.
