    I have been looking at the SR and the FW for a bit, but they came out in July of last year. When is Sony going to start releasing new ones? I can wait.

    The FW was also updated with the FW390 line. With the options available, it doesn't feel outdated at all. Well, perhaps in the GPU section since ATI announced the Mobility HD4xxx line.

    i am guessing the earliest replacements for FW / SR / Z will be late 2010 (chances are it's going to be in 2011)

    for example,
    TZ released May 2007 ==> replaced by TT October 2008 ( 1.5 years) i believe they replaced it earlier because of a manufacturing flaw in the TZ)
    SZ released March 15th 2006 ==> replaced by Z + SR ~ late August 2008 (2.5 years)

    FW released July 2008 ==> ? i'm going to guess at least late 2010

    the thing is, because of the pending economic situation, rumors are that they are pushing intel to delay the release of new mobile chipsets, meaning a further delay in the release of new models, meaning i wouldn't be surprised if a replacement model came out sometime in 2011

    the FW/SR/Z are all new models, i don't know why you're even thinking about the next model :) it's like asking when the new model for the SZ will be released (late august 2008) when it is only mid august of 2006, 5 months after the SZ was released

    on a side note, it is best to buy the models now that they have just dropped in price and released the refresh. i don't know about sony, but with dell, they see what the problems are in the initial release of the laptop and then they fix it once they release a refresh

    I think new models will be available at the end of this year and the beginning of next. Nehalem is a big jump from Core 2, and since there will be quad cores and dual cores with integrated graphics, I think all the Sony's will be redesigned.

    dell just came out with their studio xps line and in a few months they'll be releasing the adamo.. if nehalem is released by the end of this year or early next, then wouldnt that mean they'll be forced to replace their models in less than a year?

    It all depends on when Intel will release Nehalem. With all this economic problems and shrinking profits I don't really see SONY hurrying to replace a still good and competitive line of laptops. They'll throw in the new 4xxx ATI chip later this year and then just wait for Nehalem.

    Dell could make the XPS Studio's a little slimmer since Nehalem takes up less space and will require less cooling.

    it, I think I should wait then. Is there a pattern in which Sony updates a laptop? I want to buy it now but I can wait if the FW will have a better GPU.

    The problem with computers is there is almost always something shiny coming soon on the horizon, so waiting just means there will be something else to wait for later as well!

    I totally understand Nixon, but I don't want to be screwed over. I just want to run games at 1080p :) I think I will go buy one at the Sony Style store near me. If I like it, I will return it and custom order a new one :D

    We can't yet be sure the new 4xxx ATIs can run smoothly games at 1080p, that's a hard task for any GPU.
