    Hey everyone,

I finally decided I'm gonna go buy a TZ. Probably this weekend. However I just wondered, how long till the next set of TZ models come out? Is there any reason to hold off for a while? Or are we talking several months?

    Cheers.

i would advice u get it if u need it now. otherwise u will always wait for the next model. i suspect the next upgrade will not be such a huge leap from the current model.

In North America, we've had the TZ1XX models, the TZ2XX models will come soon, the highest end TZ2XX model, TZ298N/X, is on Sonystyle right now for pre-order to be available early March.

The other lower-end models should be out late Feb, early March. Changes are slightly faster processor, higher resolution webcam, and higher capacity hard drives.

Overall, pretty small incremental upgrades. You buy one now, you won't miss out on much. I bought a cheap one now and will wait a year for a refresh/new model.

Has anyone got a time frame for the newly announced TZ release in Asia (Not Japan, specifically India)?
Question: It's mentioned above 'Higher Resolution Webcam' Just what is the actual improvement? Thanks

I will stuck with my 15" Toshiba untill July. Hopefully untill then Sony will make a worthlfull upgrade. I will pull the trigger when they will finally change this crappy 950 GMA.

I think we will have to wait several months for this my friend. And who knows, maybe Sony will stuck with this old chipset for a while. If they decide to upgrade to Santa Rosa or Montevina later on, is it really worth waiting? I mean mostly TZ is for portability and battery life. These issues with a most powerfull chipset how they will change? This is a problem that Sony will have to solve. That's why I think they did not put the SR inside this new TZ2xx, more heat will be produced, noisy fan and less battery life. And really how much in terms of all these issues a different chipset would mean? Anyway is not a gaming laptop. My advice is: Take it now and enjoy!

Well, about Santa Rosa I agree. Plenty of utraportables reported that battery life discreased and more heat have been produced with the latest Intel chipset. Maybe Sony skip it for this.
But for Montevina and Penryn processor the news say that will produce less heat and the battery life will also increase. So, what's better for a Sony TZ? Unfortunately, we will have to wait... :( Montevina is going to be released on May 2008 so for ulytraportables I suppose few months after.

Just been checking the UK site for Vaio, the new TZ's with the Penryn processors, still come with OLD 0.3 mega pixel camera. So NO upgrade on camera at least!
So it looks like only faster processors and newer/bigger hard drives

there are no 45nm Penryn ULV cpus yet. You are assuming wrong. In any case, if you want it now, buy the previous model, it would be cheaper and the upgrades are marginal

My mistake, I was checking the SZ series as well as got confused. You are right, NOT Penryn. Faster current gen processor. My bad.

not necessary faster CPU. head to head it has a higher multiplier i.e. 9x on the U7600 vs 10x on the U7700.

This would be ~3-4% head to head if even that.

First, it got sold for more than what it is on sony style. Think someone shilling

Second, it was supposedly a 'gift'. Who gives a 4K gift to someone that would end up selling it on ebay. Think mentality. People who make or receive 4K gifts do not sell them on ebay.

Third. He has two, not one, two, while it is not even available at Amazon, SonyStyle, etc. I don't even see it at IngroMicro.

But hey Die, you can be naive and tell me that I would never know. This is a total scam!

I agree with Sony, it's not even out yet, so the eBay seller is either lying through his teeth, or he's gotten products that were stolen. Either way it's not a good proposition.

Seriously. If you were going to spend $3k+ on a notebook, I'd rather wait and get it from a reputable dealer than eBay.
