Does anyone know in what country Sony Vaio SZ6 sold in the USA are manufactured? Are they made domestically in the USA, or Japan?

The reason I ask is because I want to mail order one into Canada. If they're made in the USA, you do not have to pay custom duties (NAFTA), but if made anywhere else there is a lot to pay.

you don't need to worry. i've ordered 5 made in Japan vaio's over the years from across the border and never had to pay duty just GST/PST.

worst case, if you order a custom built vaio it will be made in USA

Outside of NAFTA, computer are duty free when importing to Canada from a lot of regions, including USA and Japan, so you have nothing to worry about in regards to duty.

There are no brokerage fees if you receive the computer by air.

HOWEVER, still be prepared to pay GST/PST, even though you might be lucky if it slips by, but by law, you are entitled to pay 14% (for Ontario) of the declared value upon delivery. Having said that, it's almost certain they they'll tax you on the GST/PST. The government will take every penny they can get.

Certain retailers are willing to undervalue the declared value, but usually larger companies are not willing to do so. In any case, undervaluing means the insurance coverage is less since the insurance will only cover the amount declared.
