OK so I'm using a Vaio Z, which is docked when at my desk into a 24" monitor and separate keyboard and mouse.

Which is great, but I miss the Z's keyboard, which is just fantastic.

Then I saw the Vaio JS in a store, and it has a wonderful scrabble style keyboard, similar to the Z. Just a simple USB keybaord, but very nice indeed, even has an S1 button.

But they're not available retail outside of the whole computer, and Sony Support won't sell me one as a spare unless I can give them the serial number of 'my Vaio JS'.

    Any ideas?

Part/model number of the keyboard is vgp-ukb3gb

    Cheers,

    S

Try emailing Brett at Conics - he is bound to be able to source one for you.

It is, you just have to change the check box on the search field to part number, and not model number. Sony's parts website is a mess of a thing to use.

If you decide to buy it from Sony Parts Center, be prepared to shell out big $$$; that keyboard is currently out of stock, listed for $141.77. I remember I wanted to get a spare one for my VAIO XL and it was listed for $240 there. Watch eBay, as I saw a JS keyboard there sell for like $34. VAIO LV and RT sport pretty cool wireless keyboards too.

OK, fair enough, but how do I get that to work on a PC?

There are a few different buttons in there, and is there a way of reassigning them that won't confuse the hell out of me?

Yes got it now, but only with your code, which I missed totally on first reading. Searching on the code I gave I just couldn't get it to come up.

That's the US keyboard though, and I need the UK one (suffix GB) otherwise I'll have to learn to type all over again.

    Thanks anyway though.

    And now watching ebay too.

In a way the LV and RT keyboards are nicer, but I use the number pad a lot so it has to be the JS.

Perhaps they'll bring out an accessory keyboard with the isolated keys soon anyway, as all the new machines seem to be moving over to that style. Living in hope....

No not yet..... so I'm using the Apple keyboard! Which I have to say works very well. Main difference is that the Alt and Windows (Apple) buttons are switched, but otherwise it's great.

And it's cheap! A lot cheaper than a Sony keyboard I'd guess.

If anyone is interested in the keyboard, this guy has them on ebay, its a bit to much to pay for just for a usb keyboard, heres the link:

    http://cgi.ebay.es/Sony-1-480-990-1...S?hash=item5ad139f06f&_trksid=p3286.m63.l1177

Do any of you know if the keyboard that comes with the LV would work on the vaio z?

And if so which is the part number or name of the keyboard.

What do you think about the VGP-WKB5, i see to problems, no isolated keys and no touch-pad.

Well hope this info was useful for anyone.
