    I'm looking to get:

    4GB DDR3-SDRAM DDR3-1066, 2GBx2

I tried newegg, bestbuy, and frys, but I can't find this specific RAM.

Is it worth paying Sony $150.00 for 4GB RAM instead of buying just 1GB when configuring a notebook?

Judging by this search, maybe it is best to have Sony include it for $150 more. Alternatively, I suspect that there will be more DDR3 sodimms hitting the market over the next few weeks since the Montevina chipset was just officially announce.

When I first bought my Mushkin RAM on 11/20/2007:

It was $80.00, free shipping, so I was hesitant about buying Sony's RAM for $150...that's like double the price...but I guess I should just go along with the CTO for now
