I just bought a pre-configured SR490 and am wondering where do these ship from. Does sony just have one shipping center for VAIOs or are there numerous?

I'm not sure where they ship from. But I know all the Vaios now made in USA instead of China.

I'm just wondering what happened to the good ol' days when laptops were made in Japan or other technologically-advanced countries where quality was top priority.

I did not buy a CTO, just the pre-configured one. You're saying it ships from San Diego? Thats a bummer, I live in New England.

I got my CTO from San Diego California, I live in Los Angeles. It took one day to get my VGN-FW490.

Remember most of the "made in" only really refers to assembly of the units. Fabrication of components (like the bare motherboard, various internal devices, etc) occurs primarily in Taiwan, with certain components built in fabs all across the world.
The only real difference is probably the casing, which I would imagine is produced locally/regionally; in which case you could have differences in quality control (like how some units have paint chipping or plastic warping).
For reference, VAIO "Owner-Made" units (the equivalent of CTO in Japan) are, naturally, "made in Japan". -
I'm living in San Jose right now anyone know when will my lappy which i bought in Sonystyle yesterday will arrives?

I purchased my SR CTO on the 26th and it is currently headed down here to Santa Clara from Sacramento. Should be receiving it today. I'm sure shipping got delayed an extra day or two due to the holiday.
