I saw from FAQ that Z has socket for TPM, so I want to try adding the TPM module to see if I can get that working.
Does anyone kow where to buy the TPM module? I heard it's 10 pin connector. I am guessing TPM from other model of VAIO may work as long as they are 10 pin.
I appreciate any help.

TPM is not sold separately

wonder if it's the same module the BX series takes. If so it's part # A1226626A. $30.

H.A.L. 9000 Occam's Chainsaw
That series is 5 years old. I doubt it. TPM in the Z's is built into the motherboard if it's anywhere. You'd have to buy a Z with TPM to get it, or replace the motherboard with a Japanese model. -
I doubt that, since it would be very expensive for sony building different motherboards only for TPM features. That doesn't make sense IMO. I guess every motherboard has a connector for that like for the WWAN card. Also the HDD models have the connector for SSDs.

From what I remember you can simply add one. Dont know the part number

TPM modules on the VPC-Z are optional parts. As such, they are NOT soldered onto the mobo. You can simply stick one into a dedicated port (available on ALL VPC-Z motherboards, regardless of country of sale), or remove one at your leisure.
The TPM chips seem to vary between models. Zoinks, if he's still around, tried sticking in a TPM chip from a VGN-Z to a VPC-Z and it wasn't a perfect fit. Plus, the VPC-Z didn't want to boot at all with the TPM chip from a VGN-Z. And as far as I know, there are NO chips available in the States which is why they ain't included from the start. I heard some people here are considering a class-action against Sony because of false-advertising... -
I live.
We beat up this subject with some vengance a while back. You can indeed retrofit the Z11/2 if you can find the part.

Sorry, but I wasn't able to find the brand & model number of a TPM chip that worked with the 1290X....I guess I am just going cross eyed after spending all day trying to locate the (non-existant) installed chip that Sony tech support told me was there. Can someone please repost the brand and model number of the aftermarket/jerry rigged solution that works?
Thanks! -
Since the tpm chip sits an a tiny daughterboard, you will need to purchase an original part, probably directly through sony service.

I got some bad news. I was looking for the TPM part on the VPC Z1 technical manual and going through the parts list and the only thing i could find is in the picture attached below.
In the red box, it seems to be the "complete motherboard (520m,540m,620m)" with the (520m,540m,620m) designating the cpu.
In the purple box, you have the same, except there's a "TPM" appended to the end of it.
I assume these parts are the entire motherboard with the CPU, GPU and TPM included. This means it's going to be hard to source the part itself... seems like Sony doesnt want us to add a TPM chip aftermarketAttached Files:

Ok. So is there any fairly powerful and lightweight vaio sold in the US that does come with a TPM installed? I really would prefer to be able to run bitlocker without the add-on USB drive, but still want a high powered processor and lightwieght machine....
Where to buy TPM module for VPCZ1290X?
