I have 2 x SZ with broken motherboard. Onboard video card burnt out.

Also an old Sony PCG with 15.4" broken lcd monitor.

I searched many sites but they don't sell motherboards / lcd screen. Usually just the normal stuff such as lcd inverter, batteries, adapters etc.

You can find the whole motherboard. You do not state what version you are looking for, but they are EXPENSIVE. I do not know about replacing individual components of the motherboard. You can also try Sony to repair the computers. They will charge you, but it is almost one price charging. You can get an estimate from Sony Support. For the older S series which the SZ replaced, a new motherboard was about $630.00.

yeah ur right I found one for $680 lol. To repair all 3 laptops I might as well just buy 2 new ones.

It's a bit annoying to call Sony UK support, because they won't just sell you the parts. They want to include the labour charge which then makes it not worthwhile at all. They told me don't bother repairing the lcd screen as well as it's half the price of the laptop. I guess I'll just use it as a server then with no screen.

Or you can always buy a large external LCD monitor (19"-21") & hook it up. It is cheaper too.

Hi. I'm just curious as to how you know the onboard video card burnt out and how it managed to do so.

Which is what I'm doing at the moment, but I wanted it to be mobile. It's a 3 yr laptop but still pretty fast Intel 2.5ghz M, 1 gig ram and Geforce 5500. I'm currently just using it as a linux router.

It's an S1HP (europe) model, I googled and found people have similar problem. I took it apart and basically applied pressure to the video card and it works. As soon as I let it go the system crashes. I spoke to an engineer and the problem basically is that the video card gets too hot and unsolder itself from the board. It is impossible to solder it back unless you have a machine that cost a lot. It uses ball grid soldering iirc.

Yeah I have checked, but I'm cant afford to pay $600 for a motherboard. I can get $600 ASUS laptop instead. It's not worth repairng the laptop.
