I'm trying to find a sony vaio z1 with the 1080p configuration, i7 processor, ssd, bluray is not necessary since I'm replace it with an hdd. I want it to be in good condition and not overpriced. If you guys can find any, it would be greatly appreciated.

FWIW, that's about what I paid for a used one (spec'd almost identically, except has wwan and Blu-Ray) on eBay.

yea, I was thinking of getting it and putting a large HDD in place of the optical drive and upgrade to 8GB of RAM. You got one with a 1080p display which is one I really want but still cant find. How are you liking the laptop so far? Any issues?

I would suggest checking eBay & even the NBR MarketPlace daily. I'm very sure that one will pop up quite often. However, you'll have to snag it immediately after seeing one become available as these machines are still very much sought after.

    Good luck. :)

you can also check the vaio outlet if you're okay with refurbs. They pop up every now and then. my friend got one a couple weeks back that had an i7, Fhd, 8gb, 256ssd, blu-ray for around 1600 after using a 20% off code

Advantage of Vaio outlet: you can buy Sony extd wtty. Disadvantage: Sony often refuses to honor their wtty!

Seriously, I have had several Vaio Outlet refurbs and they have all been in brand new condition. Also, they give you 30 days to return with full refund.

If you can get Zonks' for less than $5,000 :D, you should buy it!

So what do you use the most on an everyday basis? Also, do you use the OS X on that MBA or not at all?

^having a Z1, a Z2, and an MBAir I'll comment. I prefer the Z's with a keyboard and mouse over the MBA everyday. I prefer the Z's for work and productivity everyday. For just surfing the web and email (like right now) without a keyboard/mouse/lcd - the MBA and OSX wins for me hands down. It's hard to explain just how big of a difference that touchpad makes for everyday use.

How do you read your email without an lcd? How does a more responsive touchpad make such a big difference? Does OSX itself improve your experience, or just the way the touchpad workds with it? Can't imagine spending $1,300 for a better touchpad, but that's just me.

^Sorry, I meant "external" LCD/keyboard and mouse. You know, using my Z like a desktop.

As for the touchpad, it's both the hardware (giant touchpad) and the way OSX manages it. You'd have to spend some time with one to understand, but once you get used to it, it's VERY hard to go back to Windows/Sony touchpad.

Having owned an MBA 13 I know just what you mean. The great irritant (for me) of Apple products is that the closed environment ("walled garden") does allow the hardware/software integration to run circles around all open platforms, but at an unacceptable cost: when I set up my stepdaughter's MBP 13 last month and it would not work until I set up an iTunes account, the big brother stuff turned me off so much I decided I'd rather put up with the imperfect Windows integration vs. being "owned" by Apple. But that's just me...

^Guess it depends on perspective. Actually I'm not certain you HAVE to setup an apple id/itunes account? Didn't used to have to, but maybe now with lion you need to in order to use the App Store. Don't worry, MS is adding that with Windows 8! Either way, I don't view it as "big brother" at all, but I certainly can respect your position.

There's no replacement for displacement. Best mobile device I've ever had, and I've had many.

HTC EVO | Samsung Captivate | Motorola Atrix | HTC EVO 3D | Samsung Galaxy S II | Samsung Galaxy Note
VS Gtab | Samsung Tab | iPAD 2 | Motorola Xoom | Samsung Tab 10.1 Wifi | Samsung Tab 10.1 LTE

I'll need to sell this stuff at some point too.

I know we're getting off topic but...

I agree the SGSII is much too big. If HTC can get the EVO 3D/Sensation/Rezound to be the same size screen with smaller bezel, it will be perfect. After having the 3D for months, the original EVO feels "too big" (yes, I realize it is about the same size).

The SGSII isnt big imo. Ive had a number of devices as well, Iphone 4-Samsung Captivate-Nexus One-Zune HD-Ipad-Ipod Touch-HTC Touch HD-Samsung Omnia-Xperia X1 is all I can remember lol. Im sticking with my iphone 4 atm and probably wont upgrade till the next Iphone or if the Galaxy Nexus has great battery life, and great for music/sound quality-whats keeping me wit the iphone apart from the fantastic build quality and efficient OS.- This is way off-topic lol.
I still cant find a Z1 and Im contemplating on getting it or the upcoming Samsung Series 7 or LG p330

It seems like a good deal, especially because it is "pen box," not refurb. You may want to call Sony and ask if they will wtty it for 1 yr. Even thought the Onsale site says 90 days, usually Sony will honor the same wtty as if they sold it open box. One thing I would be suspicious of is that the same ad has shown 1 unit only available for over a week, and the ad has been linked by many sites. I would call and verify that it is still in stock. I would also read the comments at resellerratings.com. I meant to say that they are a reputable site, not onsale.com.

OnSale.com is an authorized Sony reseller (business solutions), so I guess buying from them is fine. The question here as lovelaptops had mentioned is whether that particular laptop is still available.

The following is the link to a list of authorized Sony resellers (business solutions):

Yes, and I also just learned they are part of PC Mall, which is a very well regarded company. Not really sure why resellerratings.com gave it a 2.5/5; when you read all the comments, they are mostly 5 star, but then they are almost all for gift cards (?)

If it is as represented, it's something of a steal.

I think I know one tiny part of the reason for their poor ratings. This tiny reason refers to the way they handled the HP TouchPad "fire-sale" fiasco back in August. I'm also one of those unlikely ones who ordered from them through Amazon & got badly "screwed" by them......

I had also read on slickdeals.net the massive number of very bad postings from people who, like me, ended up not being shipped a HP TouchPad, even though we all ordered as soon as their drop in price was advertised, while people who ordered later than us were shipped theirs. I'm sure quite a number of them dropped a ton of bad ratings for OnSale.com in any media outlet which offers postings of seller ratings that they can find.

One more good thing I learned: in the fine print it says they provide full refund if returned in 15 days. In the finer print they say they don't accept returns on many different brands, including Sony, but I think that's for new items only.

it seems as if it was sold as the page is no longer found :(
Im thinking of just buying an SE or SA because Im tired of waiting for the Samsung Series 7 and LG P330 to be released and cant find a suitable Z1 to purchase.
BTW, hows the battery life on the Z1 since I need about 4-5 hours out of it

I had a Z1 for a short while before I had to return the item due to dead pixels. In that short period, I constantly got 4 hours of battery life. I guess that SSD and the dedicated Graphic use up a lot of energy.
