I've been using the extended battery with my SZ160 since May 2006 and now it barely keeps an hours charge. Is there a place other than Sony Style that I can purchase a new OEM extended battery at a discount? Directly from Sony I think the battery costs about $300! I'm missing the 6 hours I used to get on a charge.

Perhaps, or probably a little safer than eBay, try Amazon...but dont buy a used battery.

Has anyone ever purchased a non OEM battery to use with their Vaio notebook? I checked ebay but they are mostly non Sony batteries.

My advice to u is try best not to purchase an aftermarket battery. I am not saying all aftermarket batteries are bad. Its just you do not konw what you are getting.

Other than possible fitment issues, unstable power source can shorten your components life dramatically. This is why some desktop uses surge protector and a PSU that keep current fluctuation under 3%.

If you MUST purchase a non-oem battery, at least get one from a reputable brand. One that uses the same Japanese cell as ur OEM battery.

I guess you're right, I've been reading posts from folks who have purchased aftermarket batteries (some from Amazon) and they are not happy.

another thing you could do to save $$ is to buy manufacture refurbished battery at 50% of the original cost. the qualify is strictly controlled, it safer than brand new aftermarket ones. most of them has brand new cells and its good as new.
