Hello, can anyone show me where the CD/DVD authoring software is for the Sony VPCZ1? Or is one not included? I can't seem to locate it. Much appreciated.

    Windows Movie Maker?

BTW, what software is used to burn Blu Rays? I was looking at Sony Vegas to burn homemade footage... I have no experience in video editing but thought now would be the time to try.

I see that, but usually latops with CD/DVD writers come with some kind of software to burn discs. Something like slimmed down Roxio or Nero. I'm thinking Sony has their own.

I've searched all the VAIO stuff, like Care, Media Plus, Control Center, etc, but can't seem to find anything to make a simple CD or ISO. I've even restored to factory settings.

Sony uses Roxio Easy Media Creator 10... at least in my VPCZ1190X (USA CTO). Are you sure you didnt delete it?

I don't see any Roxio apps, don't recall deleting it. Hard drive was restored to factory of this VPCZ122GX. Looking around and noticed "PMB" but it's for authoring videos; nothing where I can copy or burn CDs.

The models in Asia don't come with Roxio from what I saw.
Both my Z117GG and Z138GG didn't come with any burning software.

Hey, thanks for the input. Can anyone that has a VPZ122GX from the US provide any input? If not, guess I'll have to buy something off the retail shelf.

There are numerous free options that actually work as well (and in some cases better) than Roxio.
ImgBurn or CDBurnerXP both work very well for CD/DVDs.
Have the latter on my FW and it will even do the Bluray discs (have the burner with my model).

No pre installed roxio on my VPCZ1, there was on my old TZ though. Microsoft movie make is now part of Windows Live, and its not that good. Suggest you find an old copy of Nero 7, should be very cheap to buy.

All right, thanks for your reply. Kind of cheap that Sony didn't include one though.

I have Vegas 10 but I haven't tried any of the authoring stuff yet. I know that making BDMV is pretty easy though. Lots of good info at Doom9 (HD) DVD & Blu-ray authoring - Doom9's Forum

I prefer to have total control of the encoding, I use x264 at the command line. If you are not that concerned about perfection then maybe Vegas would be fine. If I was going to author a Blu-ray I would output raw video from Vegas, encode with x264 and then Mux it myself. To me the most disappointing thing about Vegas and x264 is that they don't support MVC authoring. You can do SBS but I don't know of any free or consumer software for MVC authoring. All the MVC authoring programs I have seen are targeted at commercial use and have huge price tags.

What are you trying to burn? "Simple CD's" can be created with windows out of the box. ISO's can be burned with IMGBURN (free).

Thanks ComputerCowboy. I didn't follow 70% of the stuff you said [I'm far from a pro]. All I need to do is take a few of my avi files taken from our camcorder (vacation footage) and do some light editing and burn them onto a disc. I opted for BD over DVD since a single BD can hold more information (all video files are 480). We'll see how this project goes... I've got ~275GB of video to burn.

Yea sorry I was ranting about 3D, that is what MVC is all about. Like I said... I have never use Vegas to author anything. I have used it to edit stuff. I probably never will use Vegas to author anything.

Since you said Blu-ray I assumed you were talking about h264 encoding, and in all reality you probably are. Your 275GB of video will get a lot smaller when it is encoded/authored. I be if you edit it down to what you want Vegas will make it pretty easy to author a blu-ray and handle all the encoding.

What I was talking about is much more involved, you would edit and then encode the raw output with a separate program, then put the encoded video back with the audio in yet another program, create the file structure and burn a blu-ray.

I am almost positive you will find everything you need right within Vegas.

I am not a pro either, I am just a very enthusiastic enthusiast. On the other hand I have two brand new 3D cameras I haven't even used yet since I am busy with real work.

Another recommendation for CDBurnerXP. It is very very good.
