In Hong Kong they are doing a promotion where every user who purchases a VAIO YB gets a free RAM upgrade from 2 GB to 4 GB. From what I see from the RAM packaging, the RAM brand they use is Transcend. Try picking up one of those, they should work.

Brand is not important!! Buy the cheapest from a known brand!

    DDR3 is what you need.

Depends on the processor. I don't think the CPU in vaio yb can support 1600 MHz

Yes, buy 1066mhz ram, if it doesn't support it will downclock to 800mhz.

    Exactly.
And I advise you to buy 1066 - you can always resell it easier or use it on another PC later. It will work just as 800 on your pc, but will have a higher value in a few months or an year from now.

I'd just like to bring up the point that there was another member here who tried to upgrade from 2GB to 4GB and after trying many, many brands that all weren't compatible with the YB he was forced to ask a computer shop to take a 2GB stick out of another YB and place it in his own. I don't own a YB so I can't confirm this, but it's something to keep in mind.

I consider that a complete nonsense! Sorry. My personal opinion.
I now also have 2 different brands RAM in my VAIO.

Well Transcend is a well known RAM manufacturer which is considered rather cheap. However as many people say - RAM is RAM, so if this is the cheapest and most convenient option - it's fine. it is for sure much better than buying unknown brand. But this one isn't 1066 or did I see wrong?

It is 1066 :) I just wonder why it can't run with for example 1333mhz considering it's a rather "new" chipset etc. ?

It's a limitation of the AMD Fusion chipset.

Whilst it is new, it's fairly common to see low-voltage, long battery life, ultra-mobile type stuff running slightly behind the curve when it comes to the very fastest sort of RAM. It's understandable, since raw power isn't a priority with these sort of laptops.

Ultra-low voltage laptops have lower productivity by default (CPU... RAM...).
But even the otherwise powerful 2010 Arrandale laptops support up to 1066MHz only. Sandy Bridge goes up to 1333.
