It came with Norton as you are all aware. Question is, which should I go with? Should I get rid of Norton? Should I go with Microsoft's virus software? McAffee? A different version of Norton?
Any suggestions? I want the one that does the job with the least amount of intrusions or system slowdown. Appreciate the help.

Also - should I get rid of Microsoft Defender? Does it really help or does it slow my system down?

I'd say get rid of Norton...my best recommendations for antivirus on Windows are Kaspersky and NOD32, look at those two. Light on resources, quick and always the fastest at up-to-date virus definitions.
But if you want to keep with something you've heard of (NOD32 and Kaspersky aren't as well known), I'd suggest Symantec AV (which is the corporate version of Norton, same company, much better AV), and Trend Micro. -
Just the Antivirus versions or Internet Security versions?

AVG baby! Used to use Avast but kept having to look up my free key and had problems with the licensing module (even though its freeware).
Why pay for an anti-virus program? Everything else is built into Windows as of Vista. -
AntiVir Personal Edition that's the one that im trying to used right now it's fast update it's also a Freeware and also has light on resources. works on this OS Windows 2000/XP/Vista/XP64/Vista64 .

I've said this before but I'll second the votes for NOD32 - it's what I running on my TZ. Very low overhead and always up to date (sometimes updates several times a day).

Most people who recommend a virus scanner have really never put it to the test.
When I tested Norton, Nod32, Avast, Avira, AVG they were disabled by a trojan within 1 second.
The only program that actually protected me was Kaspersky. -
The topic is a bit weird...which virus software.
In any case, I vote for Avast Antivirus for the active web scanner.
