I think I'm going to buy an SZ240. I have a choice of silver or black keyboard. I am totally up in the air on that...what color keyboard would YOU choose?

Silver paint will wear off with use.
    Don't get a 240, and don't buy direct.

I like black because looking at a white/silver keyboard in a bright sun hurts the eyes.

I'm curious why buying direct is a bad idea, where would one normally want to buy an SZ?

The answer is that it ISNT necessarily a bad idea...for instance, I chose to purchase direct because Sony was offering 18 months of interest free financing whereas the most I could get anywhere else was 90 days...and I needed the financing option.

Nuntius just seems to believe that whatever was best for him/her is necessarily the best option for everyone, and that simply isnt true

dont know about the rest of you, but i do not regret choosing a silver keyboard.
i think it looks awesome :)

you should look into a SZ3XX series, if you havent bought it yet. might as well get the better processor.

being a computer science major at my university, i do A LOT of programming with my SZ. i see no fading or any abnormal wearing or tearing at all on any keys. plus i play WOW...... the W, A, S, and D keys look near perfect.

(if you dont know, those MMROPG's use those keys signifigantly more than any other keys)

**WOW is world of warcraft... i know im a total nerd. -_-

I like how the Enter key is black. I vote for the silver keyboard.

And you're just making impolite assumptions, aren't you?

Fry's Electronics has the SZ-260 Premium model for 1,999
Portable One has the SZ-250 Premium model, customizable, for 2,099

How about this, I like to help people save money and buy superior notebooks.

    Mine too.

    Did it come that way?

I can't figure out why the silver is a $30 option. I think the black looks better.

    Black keys FTW!!

However, it's very easy to see dust on a black keyboard :(

Black looks much better with the darker surround but the silver looks as good as black with the lighter.

Get the silver and buy a black 'spare' then replace every other key and have a chequered one - best of both worlds! :D ;)

I prefer one "general" color throughout a notebook, so I'd prefer black. However, with the SZ series, you can only really achieve this with premium models' chassises as they come in the charcoal black tone, opposed to the non-premiums' silver.

I changed out my black keyboard for a silver and I think it looks pretty sharp. Color blends in very well with the palm rest. Wanted to give it a try because a friend had it and I noticed it was a little easier to see the keys in low light conditions. I'm happy with it.

Aww, I like the stickers. :p

Personally, I like the black one better but I would pick the white one because the black keyboards wear out in a short while and become very glossy looking, I think it would be less pronounced on a white/silver keyboard no?

The silver keyboard looks so much better then the black, I wish I had customized an SZ with it.. Next laptop, I'll be sure to go for the silver.
