Which models are effected for the battery drain problem?

I know that Z is effected.
My fiancee is thinking of getting the TT.
But just want to know if this model is effected?

    (Not a big deal really)
I mean, I know that the only way to solve this so far is to take out the battery overnight and when you want to use it, just plug it in again. Slight hassle but not impossible.

I am only aware of this "battery drain problem" when you are using hibernation or turning your computer completely off/on. I have no battery drain problem if I am just putting my Z into sleep. So I don't see it as a problem, just a quirk of the model.

Surely your Z must loose charge when in sleep?

But it may be less than the battery drain problem so it's actually kind of a 'solution'.

Just make sure you have your auto-hibernation options Off. Otherwise, it will wake from sleep at the designated time, and then go into hibernation instead.

Well, I really do love my FW...

and yes, there is a battery bleed problem

Turned OFF and unplugged from AC...it lost 30% in 1 week sitting there - extra capacity battery.

    thanks
I cannot find the option under vista to turn off hibernation, could you tell me where I can find it.
I search and use the command, *powercfg -h off* to turn off hibernation, is that ok?

as i know, sleep function is storing data in RAM, the ram need to be powered by battery in order to keep data existing in it.

Hibernation is storing data in HDD, so that should not be powered by battery to keep the data.

so, I feel little confused, if it is true that sleep function can prevent battery drain, sony makes a really weird product

As far as I know, TT, TZ, Z, SR all suffer from a degree of battery drain problem -_-; Possibly, built in Sony battery care :D lol

If you have power management software installed, click on the DVD-ROM icon on your bottom right, which shows your player is either on or off to conserve power. Right click I think (I don't know exactly as I don't have my Z with me here), and then click on Power Management (?) or some option. Its quite obvious. In there, you'll see a list of items/options for power conservation. You'll find the option to hibernate or not in there. Sorry I can't be too specific, but maybe someone can help me out with that.

I am sure there's another way to get to the same menu as well. But that seems to be the easiest one.

Hibernation may not burn as much juice as sleep when its actually in hibernation, but its when you start the laptop back up again where you burn majority of the battery.

I wouldn't put my laptop to sleep for extended amount of time for sure when I am traveling. I'd just turn it off. But if you're on and off the laptop, or if you're connected to AC source, then sleep is good, and I find the battery drain negligible (when not connected to AC source of course).

    thanks reaborg.

I find the led (which is on the power button) is still working with yellow color when z is in sleep. Can I turn the light off because I feel that consumes some power...hah

    Thanks

I just test it under SLEEP mode.
I disabled hibernation mode, and made z sleep when the % power at 97% before going to bed last night. leaving it alone for 10.5 hours. this morning, I find the % is dropped to 92%, dropped 5%..
this is just a one time experience.

Well the difference is, with hibernation and total shutdown, everytime you cycle it, you lose some 'x' percentage of battery. So say, over your 10 hr period, you cycle into hibernation 5 times, then you lose 5x%. While, with sleep, the energy decrease is proportional to how long its in sleep, rather than how many times you go into sleep mode over that 10hr period. Question is, after how many hibernation cycle will going to sleep be a better choice? I'd guess 1 or 2 cycles.

So you choose which conserves your battery more. I am constantly on/off my laptop, so sleep is much better than hibernation.
